Hi. This machine got stuck on the rinse cycle for about 3 hours. The water was warm but not hot. It may have heated up and cooled down over the extended rinse, or may have stopped heating up.
My initial thought was that the timer had failed and it looks this way from my tests. After trawling the forum this doesn’t seem a common failure so I’m wondering if you have any ideas.Tests done so far:
Start prewash – pumps out but doesn’t advance from that. Dial static. Clicking noise from timer
Start main wash – Dial advances too quickly. Goes to wash mode and then dial static. Doesn’t heat up.
There are two thermo sensors on the sump, one for 55deg and one for 65deg. They are both open circuit when cold and closed circuit when heated. Seem ok?
Any help appreciated. I suspect it’s a gonner though, especially as the timer is £130.

With the power off, check the resistance through the heater when split from the circuit, also check wiring at hinge point in the door for breakages. Timer problems are most unusual.

Thanks for the reply Penguin.
I forgot to mention I got about 28 ohms across the heater terminals while in the circuit. Couldn’t see how the connector comes off and didn’t want to use too much force. Equates to about 2kw so thought it’s probably ok.
I’ll check the cables and let you know.

Cables are all fine.
I tried running it again and the timer doesn’t advance at all now. I can move it manually and the machine does all the various functions: fill, drain, wash etc. Must be a problem with the timer motor itself or the drive wouldn’t you say?Re: Whirlpool ADP744 – stuck mid cycle and no heat

Took the timer out and confirmed the motor is dead.
I’ve decided to get a new machine. It’s seven years old and had a lot of use.
Also, while checking it out I discovered a slight leak from the main pump housing, so probably not worth repairing.
Thanks for looking up the part number anyhow.Yes I find a digital camera is very useful for making a record of connections etc.

I picked up a Bosch SGS3042 for peanuts. It’s as old as the Whirlpool but is a much better machine.
I know you guys rate them and I can now see why. Well designed, well built, much quieter, and gives better results. I’m very impressed.
I’ve always bought cheap brands and although they’ve given good service you can see how poor they are in comparison.
