ParticipantHello.
My built-in SMEG fridge has died this morning it seems. Lights are ok but it’s not starting up basically. I believe the reason might be that some unknown to me part (maybe some part of thermostat) is faulty. On the image below the item in green circle is the one that I suspect to be the source of a problem because it leaks out some sort of oil or whatever it is.
Could anyone please give me a hint about it? Model is CR305B/1.

Hi Alw,
The model number given isn’t listed and there are a few variants of the CR305. However, I had a look through them and the part circled in green is not shown on any of the variants.
At a guess from the picture though it looks like a vent of some sort. I’ve never seen one in the flesh so I can’t say for sure but if you take a photo and post it I’m sure one of us will be able to identify it.

That looks like a thermistor, possibly a humidity sensor but I’ve never seen that before and it’s certainly not listed as a spare, but I can see why I think. It looks as if it’s foamed in and therefore will likely be irreplaceable.
But I’ll find out as I’m intrigued now.

Got an answer yesterday from Smeg and another source.
Basically that’s a thermistor and will not have any oil in it.
If there’s any leakage there it will almost certainly be from spillage I reckon. The advice from Smeg is to clean the area with alcohol and replace the cover but that shouldn’t cause the fridge to go dead.
What would is a PCB failure or compressor failure, or at least they’d be the first things I’d be checking.
