No thread here about them. 😕

    There is now. 🙂

John Fitz has left/been bulleted. Details are not available but he is gone.

Have just heard this one not substanciated – they are offering franchises to engineers, you put in £30K and they ‘promise’ to give at least £68K in work. You have to get a van etc. – Anyone noted a whisper 8)

    Re: JTM

I know nothing of the JTM offering or if it even exists but here’s some general advice on franchises….

What proportion is paid back if the work fails to materialise and what guarantee is there that the funds will be repaid? Guarantees cut both ways as do the penalties for failing to deliver what the franchise vendor is offering as well as the service that you have to provide.

What support in the way of spares and information is given to enable the work to be made profitable?

Is that £68K in turnover of profit?

Over what period to pay back the original investment?

A few fundamental questions I wish some other “franchisees” had asked. :rolls:

For example, if someone wanted me to pony up £30K in advance I’d expect some damn good guarantees that my money was safe and that I’d get it back, with interest, in a maximum of three to four years. For most of us that’s a serious amount of wonga to take a punt on.

I’m not having a dig of any kind at a franchise (unless it’s Indesit, but that doesn’t count as it’s a Mickey Mouse thing so far as I’m concerned) but, before you go rushing into anything that you are about to invest a large sum of money into, check it all out and make sure it works and it suits you. Get a specialist franchise solicitor to look over the agreement to make sure it’s pukka. All this BEFORE you sign up for it!

By the way, giving up your job or business to go do something like this is tantamount to the same level of investment IMO.

    Hope it helps.

Got an interesting snippet today on JTM…

    Staff gone.

Payments not made, bounced cheques (refer to drawer) and promise of trying to make a BACS payment to repairer in question on Friday.

Slow payments as they’re on a rota. He who shouts loudest or who’s turn has come gets paid.

All in all it sounds pretty grim on the face of it, if true. Only one source thus far.

Heard they were closing the call centre in Sheffield and making the staff redundant. I would assume moving everything to Durham !

    Re: JTM

Yes, I heard our very own Mr Heath even put in an appearance. Just on the subject of colourful pasts.

TBH there’s been a number of changes within the group and I don’t know what they are fully or why they have occurred. What I do know is that there are some things that appear not to make a lot of sense.

Are JTM about to shuffle off the mortal coil, dunno.

I do know that the whole JTM operation is supposed to have been rebranded as 0800 Repair and that they’ve just opened a drop-in repair centre or shop in (I think) Durham with Scott Pallistair doing the PR bit. The same Scott Pallistair that according to some no longer works there.

I also know that other staff have either left or are nowhere to be seen.

I also know that if JTM did go it would hurt a LOT of repairers so, any rumour that gets out in the open as it were may well prove to be counter productive, in the extreme.

I also have had wind of vultures circling and the carcass hasn’t yet stopped twitching.

If it is true , it was not mentioned or minuted at the DASA meeting, Paul Greenberg should have been there but was double booked , and they decided the Panasonic meeting was more important. So i’m told …..

I had been told that he’s on garden leave. How accurate that is I have no idea as I’ve no dealings and no contact as well as only one report from a source that I’d give credit to.

    Re: JTM

    Okay, soooo…..

    People have left.

    They moved.

Stuff seems to have shut down.

And now there are more persistent rumours from more diverse sources of “troubles”.

Then there’s the known contract losses.

And, to cap it all. it seems access denied to some people’s systems that they were working for.

It could just be me and, I could be barking up the wrong tree completely but, all the above considered, I’d say they were in the fast moving part of sh1t creek minus the aid of a paddle, anchor or handy rescue helicopter.

I’ve been wrong before and doubtless will be again but, this seems to indicate there may be something not good happening with JTM.

    Re: JTM

There is some unhappiness again here and apparent non-payments to agents.

I won’t recount our experience but, let’s just say the conditions are challenging with them at the moment.

One agent said to be taking them to court over non-payment.

    Re: JTM

Okay, so the current crop of “rumours”…

JTM defrauded Baumatic, hence the recent kick off with the agents. Up to £150K in dispute, claims of fraud etc. You know how that goes.

Paul Greenberg, Quinto and some other woman, all issued redundancy notices yesterday and are on four weeks notice.

Panasonic, they have apparently lost. Eventual destination of that currently unknown.

Other fraud claims may appear in due course.

I think that’s the headlines in total for tonight. What a bl00dy week!
