ParticipantNoticed a post in the public forum about unblocking a jammed drain pump on the dwf/dwm range of dishwashers and was advised to tip it onto it’s side and take base and pump off etc.
I work for Indesit (i was Hotpoint before that) and someone showed me ages ago the best way to unblock a jammed pump is to stick a long cable tie through the grid in the bottom of the sump that leads to pump and move it back and forth.
I have done this on at least a 100 (common fault) appliances with a jammed pump and and have always had 100{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} success and no recalls.
Just thought i would pass the tip on as it saves a lot of time and messing about getting the appliance out.June 25, 2007 at 11:24 pm #218462Penguin45

How? If it’s a solid object, it has to be removed, surely?

I know what you mean and i thought that when i was told how to do it but it works.
I suppose we are mostly dealing with bits of food, bone and glass.
Usually takes me a minute or two the most.
When you get it right you push the pump flap valve and water from the drain hose rushes in pushing the blockage out the way or you push the item the other way with the cable tie.If you look at the grid in the sump i push the cable tie through each of the three gaps and give it a good push and pull as far as it will go.
I then do a few fill/empties to make sure its gone.
Cable ties i use are the 10 inch(approx) white ones that have some width so you get that pushing power.June 26, 2007 at 8:24 am #218464goosegreen

I have been doing this for over a year now and have been 99{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} successful, But use a small length of coat hanger wire instead of a cable tie.

MMM sounds too good to believe, the smallest things stop these pumps, i find small pieces of bone, pieces of crockery the odd lemon or orange pip or cloves etc, suppose they should in theory be washed out then. I’ll have to try this, could be as good an earner as the hotpoint carbon brushes 😉

Also works on Bosch tabletop D/ws and and basically any machine with the pump attached close to the sump if access is available.

only snag is the customer can see how easy it is to do themselves!, i dont usually tip machine on its side, just tip back, lower the bottom tray from the front only, u can then reach the 3 screws behind the pump holding the motor body on, prefer to actually see that the blockage is removed

Hotpnt, i’ve been doing it your way for ages, at least that way you see the obstruction & have it removed. If you use the cable tie method you may only dislodge obstruction & it may block again at a later time..

Must say, That whenever I have used this method I have never had a call back, But Sometimes you can hear the foreign object being chomped up by the pump and usually the noise stops and the machine pumps out ok.
Just try it, Much nicer than having your head under a dishwasher next to a bowl of dishwasher soup 😆

There are quite a lot of Indesit models where the cabinet sides wrap around the base plate, how do you go on with them?
Often tilting one way or t’other can depend on the plumbing as well.

Usually takes me a minute or two the most.I must be the unlucky one Cessna, 😥 I had an elastic band wrapped around the impeller of a pump yesterday, couldn’t have “poked” that out even with a tyre lever :rolls: I find it best to get in at the obstruction and remove it as I cannot risk a recall, rural area and all that. I will certainly give it a go and see if I dislodge “whatever”
😉
By the way cessna are you still doing “recalls” in your own time at Indesent? 😯June 26, 2007 at 8:22 pm #218472hotpnt
ParticipantRe: Indesit made dishwashers
usually find the blocked pumps are on the later ones with the ‘unwrapped’ tray, if not then RH side panel off usually, as seamy also says id rather see whats blocked it, also seems a bit harsh if you walk in, poke it with a tie then try to charge for a full call

Funny enough did another pump today using the cable tie method all done within 2 minutes.
As most of our work is insurance cust dont care how long you there for so i suppose they might be a bit peed off if you walk in clear the fault in 2 minutes and say thats £60 or whatever independents charge. -
