    Hello all 🙂 , Just a quick question…..

Why are people allowed to join and not have their info published? I have looked at quite alot of peoples profiles and there are a lot of people not even displaying their location….?

Wouldn’t it be better if everyone had to display where they were from etc? Then we could get a better idea of who’s who etc?

    Re: Members Details

This has been covered many times, and I’m sure somone can find a link to an earlier posting on this.

Lots of reasons. Some are employed by the big boys, some are like me service agents and prefer anonimity, and some are just a little timid when it comes to nailing their colours to the mast.

I must admit, those that put their names to things are more listened to, but if it wasn’t for the “Undergound” movement, very little would be said and done.

I’m sure someone will put it even more eloquently than I, but there you have it!

Hi Alex, I did look for earlier threads, maybe not enough though! I’ll look again….. However, you confuse me…… how do you prefer anonimity when you advertise your name, www, etc?

    Hi Adrian,

If you look at the old NESN and Whirlpool threads you’ll see why.

However I have, since the site began, insisted on total privacy for members if they choose to have that, there is therefore no stipulation to reveal any details other than to site admin to prove trade status. Those requests, once dealt with, are destroyed so even we can’t often tell you who’s who or works for whom.

The big fear was retribution from certain quarters if you appeared to step out of line or say the wrong thing and, for some, that is still a reality to this day.

It’s sad, but that’s the way it is and some people have to remain hidden. 😕

    Re: Members Details

    Great.

Here’s the real kicker in this for you…

The very people that complain or comment on this policy are signed up under a pseudonym and are normally working for a manufacturer, insurer or work provider.

They also most often breach the site T&C by sharing an account with multiple users in multiple locations.

There are almost none that login under a real name.

They do not publish their details in over 90{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} of the accounts of this type.

They do not post openly for the most part, with one or two exceptions it has to be said, and instead berate people for posting something on the QT.

This prevails to this day, in fact there’s been two manufacturer sign ups in the past week that I can recall, neither are obvious or under real names. Neither has any info on the profile page.

What’s good for the goose as they say. 😉

So the next time you hear something derogatory being said about a post by one of these suits just ask them how they read it as you’ve never seen them logged on and ask for their username as you may PM them some info. Works for me, you get an instant “rabbit in headlights” look.

    Case in point…

The British Gas stories (not to mention the other employed engineers) who HAVE been victimised over things said on UKW as they’ve actually sat down to work out who posted the info.

A while back BG engineers were informed that if they were found to be on, or a member of, UKW they would face disciplinary action! I was also informed that BG considered legal action against me/UKW for publishing information about their little dealings.

😮 That is absolutely crazy….. Freedom of speech? Would that stand in in an Employment court?

BG Engineers (along with the rest of us) really benefit from info on this site….., in my opinion, people should be encouraged to use this site! But….. it always is the odd few that spoil everything a! 😡

Back in the old NESN days During a meeting with somebody high up ,I was berated and threatened with losing my agency for making derogatory remarks about them on the old e-mail forum ,And had the e-mails presented to me as proof ,someone had passed on my comments from an e-mail conversation obviously wanting to score Brownie points .
Shame that there is always some little toady that wants to suck up to some one, sadly didn’t someone comment that even this forum isn’t secure .

I had my son who worked for Stoves at a disiplinary and they wanted to sack him for things that I said on here, most of which he had not told me
I had commented on things with Beko that had come from a long time aquaintance in the trade, but somehow they thought my son had told me. The disiplinary they had all my postings and went through all of them, I had mentioned about his hydraulic cooker lift and was going to post pictures on here as it looks a good tool, no doubt I would have been suid.
He couldn’t care less about whats going on just wants his salary.
I still don’t hide my ID, just don’t post things I hear now. So big brother does watch us closely.
They can’t sack him now as he is now working for me.

    I did.

One of the threads was cast up to me by someone, I can’t recall which. However it was made mention of by someone that has never had access, nor should they, to this forum.

Some of the tactics are a disgrace and, were it not for the politics involved in that harm could be brought to the likes of Kirk who is totally innocent, I’d just blow it wide open.

Bad English on my part. Try, some are Service Agents like me, but they unlike me, choose to remain undercover.

    Bit ambigous.
