Hi Simon,
I’ve not used it myself, but this stuff we have in the shop is supposed to be pretty nasty, read good for cleaning the oven but not for your hands. 😉
If it’s outside the oven that Fairy Power Spray stuff, or whatever they call it, is very good at getting grease and grime off.
There’s an article on the subject here from this link which may help you.
Whatever way you do it it involves elbow grease or paying an oven cleaning company to do it for you.

Oven Pride is very good, a bit expensive at around £4 but well worth it! Please follow all instructions and use Rubber Gloves!!!!. http://www.pride-range.com/ovenpride.html

PS, When you put your racks into the bag & put solution on, after a while it can smell rather farty, but it does work!

Like has been said, either something off the shelf – I use Mr Muscle Oven Cleaner (lethal but does the job) or a professional oven cleaning company.

simon if the oven is really manky i would get a specialist oven cleaner in to do the complete clean and then keep it clean yourself by using any of the products listed above…

Hi, I use Amway oven cleaner. Amway is like a catalogue, door to door sales. You just brush it on and then wipe it off a few hours later, it is really good, but Im sure it is very nasty. Not sure if they have a website? we get off a rep in our families village.
i have heard Mr Musscle is bad for your oven as can harm element. Not sure if this is true with all oven cleaners?Cheers

Dr Beckmanns do a trigger pack of non-caustic that is very good indeed, on a warm oven and leave for some time
Otherwise, buy a big tub of bicarbonate of soda at your local chemist, and use that as an abrasive paste. I’ve cleaned the most manky ovens you can imagine with this and vinegar, and if you can get the shelves and shelf holders in your dishwasher, you’ll find after a good wash the muck becomes hardened and brittle and just lifts off with a light wire brushing.
These are inexpensive options and easy on the hands, the eyes, the nose and the environment.

I’d like to know what the trade uses.
I was talking to someone at work following my experiences and they said that the company they used had a cleaner that did the job in 30 mins (don’t know how many it was though) and produces no fumes.
The only thing I could find that worked (Mr Muscle/Lakeland Oven Cleaner failed miserably) was a strong solution of caustic soda.
I should add that extreme care needs to be taken as its dangerous and produces fumes; did a hell of a good job though.

Most “proprietary” cleaners contain an element of caustic soda. Ultimate cleaning is best achieved by using a professional steam cleaning service and then not letting get so bad again………
As a repairer, I will repair your oven – I will not clean it

I have used Mr Muscle and found it to be very good, but the oven was not the bad!! Also used an industrial degreaser (that I cannot name for safety reasons, deadly pink stuff) and that worked but not as well as you might expect! 😯 Also this is what they use in commercial kitchens.
Also have a Polti steam cleaner and that works better than any chemical, but Polti’s are VERY expensive! 😉 Messy job though, goes everywhere! :rolls:
