Participant………you clear out all the rubbish under the sink to find the stopcocks, gently turn the cold off then the hot? Only to find the hot one comes off in your hand, shaft and all, with hot water shooting into your face!
Oh yes, great start to the day I must say? 👿
No-one knows where the main hot water tank is located to shut off the scalding flow? What a game I’ve had………???
Why do plumbers put stopcocks in goddam awkward places anyway? Don’t they have brains? What a fag changing the stopcock that was, the mess??? It was only meant to be a 20 minute brush change on a Hoover, I was there over an hour??????? 🙁
Hold up?…..Friday 13th? ….I should have stayed in bed :rolls:

Martin, Having been in the in the same situation before and as I do a bit of plumbing this what to do.
1: Don’t Panic.
2: Tell the customer to open every hot tap in the house
3: Don’t Panic.
4: Look in the airing cupboard for a gate valve, Waste of time really, As it will sure to be seized.
5: Dont Panic.
6: Hope and pray you can isolate the main stopcock (if its a combi boiler)
If Not Panic. If all else fails crimp the pipe with Mole grips or similar to reduce the flow, Then fit one the replacement tap ends that you always carry on your van! 😆 😆

Seriously though, We have all been in this sort of situation carrying out appliance work. Hands up! how many have just pulled the washer out just a little to far and and then heard the unmistakable sound of a mains water pressure flood about to take place? You dive under the cupboard and find the washing machine tap end has seized. Thats the time to panic 🙂 Would be worth keeping a few bits on the van, Such as a copper pipe slice, Speed fit stop ends washing machine tap ends and a long mains stopcock key for when the inside stopcock has seized and you can only turn it of in the street. Remember if you cause a leak and cant fix it, The customer will call any old plumber and expect you to pay 😥

yeah yeah….except when it’s me the tap is directly behind the machine which is now catching on the very expensive floor covering that because of the price didn’t get laid all the way to the wall. 😕

It pees me off when customers call me plumber 👿
