ParticipantThis is a brand new machine (Hotpoint WF860) but no matter what we do (even following the instructions) we cannot get the machine to fill correctly. It doesn’t seem to fill from the hot tap and what cold water does go in is so little it is soaked up by the washing. Just what are we doing wrong or is machine a lame duck?
PS. The water taps ARE open.

Likely as not and from what you tell us there is nothing wrong with your machine. They do take very little water indeed and regulate what water comes in with relation to the load. If you are in any doubt then contact Hotpoint directly and someone can call and check it out. But only after you have at least given the machine a chance to at least complete one full wash cycle to see the results?
HTH? 😉

Cheers Martin
I did have that thought myself but we have been used to a Hotpoint toploader for the last 30 years (and what a cracking machine that was, though VERY noisy compared with this one). The main problem, I think, is that the hot water cistern is in the loft of our VERY high ceiling Victorian house and it takes a great deal of running of the hot tap before it runs hot. I know it’s water wasteful but she will just have to ensure that it runs hot before starting the wash. As you say the proof of the pudding is in the eating so we’ll have to wait till this wash cycle finishes (the first) for the results. We ran the test cycle yesterday and there was very little water (didn’t reach the bottom of the door) but we presumed there was some form of sensor to check the load weight.
Thanks
Steve

Hi
Do not worry about hot water going into machine as most washes do not fill with hot water as your hot supply will be to hot for most washes. Alot of machines these days are cold fill only, all machines will heat the water to correct temperature any way.

HI the WF range are really cold fill only machines, it will only take from the hot if it needs to top up the wash water more than 2 times during the wash, which is unlikely
