    Hi,
Can anyone help, I have had the freezer approximately 2 years, and it has defrosted in the upper 7 drawers, but not the 2 fast freeze drawers at the bottom.

? Does it need regassing or could it be something else.

I think it has 5 years parts cover, but I shall still have to pay an engineer to come out. If i is the gas would that be covered on parts.

Any other suggestions other than gassing.

A bit miffed as I bought this freezer because I needed more room for food, but my last freezer lasted 15 years.

    Grateful for your help.

    Debs.

dont worry it wont be a gas problem, the rear panel is probably iced up, this prevents the fan blowing air into the top bins, so the only ones that are freezing are in front of the main cooling grid, (you cant see it, its behind the rear panel) easiest way to cure is remove all bins, leave door open & machine UNPLUGGED off for at least 24 hours to allow the ice blockage to melt, be wise to put some towels around it!, quicker way is to remove back panel (about 8 secrews) & you’ll see the ice block, but DO NOT attempt to chip away at the ice

I have this problem with icingup and have twice defrosted the ice. It’s a nuisance when the freezer is full of food! How can I prevent this from happening? Shouldn’t the freezer defrost itself? Thanks

    Re: HOTPOINT FZA81 FREEZER DEFROSTED

All freezers produce frost but in the “frost free ” types it’s hidden away behind a false back and defrosts itself 3 times at least every day.
Ensuring the full defrost takes place is best done by removing inner back panel to expose evaporator fins, you can use a hair dryer to hurry it along.use no sharp or metal objects and switch ff first.
Ensure the drain hole below the evaporator is clear.
If you do this and the problem re appears in a few weeks then you have an electrical fault somewhere and you would need an engineer.

Thanks, it’s happening every few months so I guess something needs fixing. I’m just loathe to pay about £100 for a call out!

What are your level of diy skills,do you have an avo type meter.
It would require after unplugging removing back wall of freezer and testing items with a meter to establish if they are OK.
Best to wade through the posts on this site re frostfrees machines playing up to get some idea of whats ahead.
if you find wiring a plug difficult start saving 🙂
