ParticipantHi,
Ihave the icing up water drainage hole problem in my Hoover A class(HCA310K)fridge freezer. I’m fairly sure it’s caused by a leakage into the surrounding foam insulation as described by others before. Is this problem considered repairable by a qualified engineer or is it only done with patience, time and daring in the way described. I’m not sure that I’ll be able to actually manage to get to the drainage pipe and carry out the nessesary work, but am desperate enough to give it a go. If anyone has done this to a Hoover A class(not frost free) before, I’d like to know how straight forward or otherwise it was. This fridge has had the problem for months now and needs melting away daily even after defrosting. Could I find the problem beyond repair now? I’d be very grateful for advice on this. Thanks.July 14, 2007 at 11:13 pm #221077Penguin45

If the insulation is frozen, it means that there is a crack in the liner material somewhere. Even if you leave it out in the glorious sunshine of the English summer to defrost for a a couple of days, I’m afraid the problem will return in pretty short order.
Replacement is your only realistic option, I’m afraid.

Participantwrap a piece of copper capiliary round the defrost heater, and poke it down the hole… usually works!!!

Thanks Helo_75 and Penguin45,
I’m not sure exactly what the cause of my problem is. It is only the top end of the drainage hose that ices up, from the exit hole in the fridge up to where the hose starts to curve downwards. After defrosting recently, hoping this would cure the problem, I think I could hear ice cracking and dropping somewhere in the fridge but outside the fridge compartment. Reading past messages regarding similar problems with a Neff, the guy had cured it by cutting through the insulation at the back and fixing a small crack in the hose close to the exit hole where water had been seaping out and icing up.
I don’t think I have a defrost heater! not sure.
I’d appreciate any further thoughts. Thanks again.July 15, 2007 at 3:07 pm #221080helo_75

Looks like a conventional fridge freezer according to parts list. No heater listed anyway.
