My parents own this dryer, the motor started stalling at the start of the cycle, but now seems to stall a few times each cycle. Requiring turning the drum by hand to get it going.

I have had a quick look at it – the motor is an induction motor, so no brushes to worry about. I have cleaned all the fluff from inside the casing and removed the belt idler pulley and cleaned and lubricated the shaft. I have also put a bit of oil on the rear drum bearing shaft which protrudes from the case.

The drum seems to be a bit stiff, but not too bad. It is kept in a garage which probably doesn’t help.

I suspect it is something to do with the felt seals around the edge of the drum. Any advice would be welcome.

Start/run capacitor will be on its way out. Get yourself one of these:

Power off when fitting and be advised that the capacitor can hold a charge.
