ParticipantHi there,
My Indesit dishwasher is only just coming up for 2 years old and has just developed a fault. The machine has power and will start a cycle but doesnt seem to move on to the rinse or dry within the selected programme. It did initially finish having missed parts of the cycle the 4th light (dry) flashes rapidily. However, on trying a few times to run a cycle again it just constantly stays on wash and does not seem to want to move on or stop.
Also I dont think that the water is heating up, I have opened the machine a few times mid wash and the water seems to be tepid!
I then tried the cold water soak programme which ran and completed with no problems.
Am wondering therefore if it is something to do with the heating element or thermostat?
Can anyone out advise what the problem might be and whether it is going to be worth fixing verses the cost of a new machine.

Neon 4 flashing is as you have discovered a heater time out failure. This one appears to have the heating element visible inisde the tub as opposed to the internal ‘tube’ type element. Sometimes if the element has failed you can see signs of splitting or distortion.
The element is quite cheap, under £20.00. It would be best to check the machine out before ordering one though. It could be the element or the wiring, control module etc. Please remove the mains plug if you intend to have a look or try the link below to see if we have someone who could help.

Thanks for the response, just wondering what to look for now?!
I have looked at the element itself and there does not appear to be any obvious signs as you described.
If it makes any difference I did notice a few days before this problem that it wasn’t drying very well.
Can you advise whereabouts in the machine am I specifically looking for possible loose wiring that may cause the heating problem otherwise is there any way that i can identify the exact cause and therefore what part i need to order rather than call an engineer out.
Thanks again

If you do not have access to a multimeter or meggar together with the knowledge of how to use one then I would respectfully suggest you do get someone who is qualified to look at this appliance, the heater itself should be the first thing to test, then physical examination of the main electronic control board. After that the wiring harness would need examining inside the door and in the base. Whilst ‘looking’ may sometimes reveal the fault, a test meter is the only concrete way to identify faults such as this.

Many thanks Jim, just called a family member with a multimeter who knows how to use it so fingers crossed he can identify the cause of the fault.

Further to my last post, the element has now been checked which is ok but is not receiving a neutral supply – can anyone tell me where the neutral comes from or have a wiring diagram that will show us.

Wiring diagrams are copyright material, however a common cause is the control module which is very cheap on these machines.
Part number, C00143802
