I e-mailed ISE admin, a week or so ago, to arrange collection of old machines but haven’t had a response.

I just wanted to make sure this is the correct procedure and that i haven’t interpreted it incorrectly.

    thanks.

    Hi Tim,

John’s been tearing his hair out this week over WEEE trying to get it all sorted and with some success, finally.

The bottom line is that the whole thing is something of a shambles, but then I’d expect no less from government. 😉

It is getting there and there’s been loads picked up already, I also know that he will have your mail so I’ll ask the question in the morning to see where he is on it.

I’m kinda keeping a record of a whole lot of things on WEEE as it’s a great story and a total farce in many ways, like for example, did you know that they reckon now that there’s about 4500 producers of WEEE not even signed up!

    Thanks for reply,

I will hold fire and try and squeeze another waste machine in my multi-use garage.

    🙂

    Cheers,

    Tim.

    Hi K,
In order for DHL to collect, do you know what the minimum number of machines we need is?

    Re: DHL collections

Ehm, err.. I was told but I’ve forgotten which, to those that know me, won’t exactly come as a shock. 😉

I honestly can’t recall Merv, I know that there’s been allsorts of shenanigans there with that and that there’s been mega hassles with the AFTs, some will pick up and others won’t, some need DHL, some don’t. Frankly it’s all all over the place.

Part of the reason and, this bit I do get as it’s politics and falls into my sphere of understanding, is that the stupid Environment Agency didn’t tell any of the compliance folks, like DHL, who or where the approved AFTs were until the 1st July. Yes, we know, the same day that the law came into force. So we now have a situation where all these schemes like DHL are firing around trying to do deals with over 200 AFTs all over the UK.

They are getting there but, had everyone had a few months notice, a hell of a lot of this could have been easily avoided. All that John’s been doing is sitting trying to make sense of it and get it all in place so it works for each of you, literally on a one-by-one basis. Some have been pretty easy and others have been an absolute nightmare to sort out and some we’re having to subsidise the collections for at the moment just to get it sorted. It should all come right in the end and, as I said it’s getting there, but until all this settles down it is causing a problem or three.

So please, bear with it I know it’s a pain at the moment, but it will come right.

    Hi Tim,

I am sorry you have been waiting for a WEEE collection; there are two core issues which are slowly resolving themselves, but have wrecked my life for the last fortnight.

    1. The Environment Agency did not annouce who the Aurthorised Treament Facility are until July 1st. Since then DHL have been trying to agree terms with these people for Class one WEEE which has a value and Re-fridgeration which has a cost. The nearest one to you which currently has terms is in Daventry, which makes your collection currently uneconomic. However if they can argee terms with one of the sites in Luton (which they are trying to do), the machines will be collected as soon a vehical is available. It’s an ever changing picture.

    2. Getting a suitable waggon – People have been stockpilling scrap ready for July 1st, that mean’t once the deals started to be done with AFTs DHL started rumming out of waggons, we are now clearly stock a 2 or 3 days after a deal with a local AFT done.

You are on my list and will get the machines away as soon as I can, your patients is appreciated.

It is currently a geographic lottery, I have one customer with an AFT who has DHL terms on the same industrial estate as him. So he is dropping off with no problems.

We’ll get there with the loggistics and when we do the value of the scrap and evidence will make this a very lucrative exercise for all of us.

    Cheers

    John
