    Hi,

This is my first post here and my first attempt at fixing a washing machine. Basically I want to know whether this job is within my capabilities. To give you a rough idea, I’m happy enough to carry out repairs on my car, fit new brake pads or a new radiator say. I like fixing things myself, when I can.

The “door open” light stays on and the machine won’t start. I assume there is a switch operated by the locking mechanism. Do I have to take the door seal off to get at the switch, or do I take the casing off?

The machine is out of its guarantee for labour, but parts are still covered.

Thanks in advance for any advice.

    Bernie

Sounds like you need a new “Door Interlock” this is situated behind the front panel. BEFORE YOU DO ANYTHING POWER OFF & UNPLUG !!! – You’ll have to undo the retaining band for the door seal & this will give you access to the Interlock by reaching round past the seal now unscrew & replace with new interlock. Refit seal & retaining band. If possible conduct a mega-test (L>E then N>E & Earth Continuity from Earth pin on plug to chassis (If you have any test equip) If readings good then plug back in & Test – Everything should work now.

Hope this is OK – Stay Safe !

That’s excellent Redflame, thanks a lot. I couldn’t see a retaining band, but I got access to the interlock from the top of the casing. I’ve ordered a new one.

It looks like a flimsy mechanism, I’m not surprised it has failed.
