Well went to use it today and got a lovely F-13, pretty sure this is a heater box error.

The machine has never worked a 6 month period in its life without some kind of failure. From memory its had about 4 heater boxes a belt and something else.

It has also been spilling water from the soap drawer on occation but was finnishing the cycle ok so wasent too bothered.

I can only assume I’m doing something very wrong or the machine has a real problem to be blowing so many heater boxes. Is there anything I can check or do?

I always try to quizz the engineers when they replace parts as to what I could be doing but they always say something like “its a washer dryer, they fail!”?

Any suggestions, if its not something I’m doing wrong I really do want to insert the appiance up somebody at Hotpoint 😆

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks

    Peter

The only thing you are doing wrong is using it! this model is absolute cr@p, do your self a favour and get rid of it as it will always be trouble.

Well Peter, loads of probs with these washer/dryers and you are not alone. It does have a 1yr guarantee and a further 4yr parts guarantee. So that is reassuring enough to test your patience at least? Have you looked at this thread by any chance?…..Maybe you could add your story to it?

Not a terribly constructive reply to someone in trouble I guess but at least we can capture the emotion of your statement anyway? 😉

LOL, well I’m somewhat in agreement, me & the mrs got it when we bought our fist place she bought it without putting too much research and went for the well its £400 so it must be good (oh and it matches our hotpoint frideg/freezer which I’m pleased to say has never had a problem).

When I told one of the engineers we didnt have an exteneded warranty I thought I caught him shedding a tear.

I think one of the repairs I paid for but after that every time I have them out they just change a heater box or two and thats it. The main thing is it leaves us out of action until we can get an engineer out. Like today for instance its got all my work clothes sat in it. From my sums they must be taking a loss on it after all the parts i have had from them. I believe I have been pretty reasonable about it, I’m always willing to assume I am doing something wrong before blaming the hardware but I really do think the thing is a crock.

Why do companies put out such carp?

Anyways I think I have learnt my lesson and will be coming here for advice on any future purchases.

    Thanks Guys

Think I will give Hotpoint the hairdryer treatment on monday.

Oooooh you got me there??? 😈

    By the way….only joking Turbo….. 😉

Peter, what you could do by the way is to play the ‘Not of merchantable quality’ card? That card must be dealt to the retailer in this case and not the manufacturer. The retailer after all has a responsibilty to you the customer for the product they have sold you, not the manufacturer!

What you may have to consider in this case is whether or not a 6 month old appliance should be expected to fail as often as it has???

    Just a thought? :rolls:

Yes I had thought of this option, to be honest its not that I dont want the thing to work I have given it every opportunity I really dont want to have to go out of my way any further than I already have.

Anybody know if Hotpoint/Indesit have been on watchdog recently, I would be up for a bit of corporate bitch slapping, its not something I really believe in and I think its quite sad when its the only way to get a manufacturer to stand up and take notice.

Not seen them on there recently but they could devote a whole series to them I reckon. 👿

    Well…

Seriously i am thinking you have a dodgy one… cos i have this machine and its excelent

best washing machine and more eco friendly than any others i have ever had.

the only problem i have had with this machine.. which wasnt hotpoint was comets who decided to drop it down my drive way when delivering it.. and still had the cheek to try and give it to me.. i told them where to shove it.. after an hour phone call.. obviously got a brand new one.. and free insurance for 3 years on it.. so yeah sorted.

but seriously this model is great 🙂

Re: Almost had it with Hotpoint Ultima 865

Unfortunately the quality of Hotpoint (AKA Indesit) machines has now sunk so low it can wave at the Titanic.
Nightmare99’s story is sadly not unique, and therefore there are surely other customers out there considering calling it a day at 6 months old. Frustration with a substandard product would make that stance perfectly understandable.
What doesn’t make sense is this impression that this is the ‘best washing machine and eco-friendly’. Not the experience of the people at the sharp end I’m afraid.
This is a shame because the humble Hotpoint of yesteryear could be said to be akin to the old Ford Escort – most people had owned one; they were basic; a bit workmanlike; but they were easy and cheap to fix and lasted long enough to satisfy most people they were good value for money. 😉 Most customers base their choice of a new machine on past experience – with an old Hotpoint that would usually have been favourable.
A machine that lasts under 2 years requiring numerous repairs and spares is neither eco-friendly or ‘best’ however you care to slice it.

Re: Almost had it with Hotpoint Ultima 865

Guess you can just say its down to opinions then…

People say Hoovers are great.. and well the reason we got the hotpoint was because the hoover we had… seriously we knew the engineer’s life deatails ect ect must of come every 2 months? the main control board kept blowing up.

so i wouldnt touch another hoover.. but this one is doing fine for us so i am happy with it.
