This is a fully integrated model. It blew the mains (13A) fuse and there was a strong burning smell.

The suppressor on the back of the power inlet block looked to be the culprit, it was charred at one end and had blown off a bit of the plastic insulation cover.

Replaced the suppressor, powered it up and the machine went through what looked to be the final rinse cycle OK (filled up, heated water, washed and emptied).

Started it on a new wash but it only went part way through the first rinse cycle and then seemed to stick, there was a repetitive clicking noise coming from what seemed to be both underneath the machine and the control box (I ran it in this state with the control box loose to try and identify where the clicking was coming from better).

Took the control box apart (3 clips) to see if I could see any signs of damage (solder joints or components) but nothing apparent.

Put control box back in, turned on power, no lights or anything. Rechecked connections, there is power at both sides of the on/off switch (leading to control unit).

Don’t think there is a separate earth fault causing knock on problems (read this in an earlier post) as I have a 30ma RCD on the whole house and it hasn’t tripped since this problem started (it’s very sensitive…).

Any suggestions? Could the suppressor blowing have damaged the control unit? Are there any other checks I could usefully do before replacing the control unit?

    Thanks.

    Hi
It maybe worth you checking the diverter part of the heater.
They tend to get water ingress from leaking o rings where the heater unit attaches to sump. A known culprit to make a clicking noise, trip the electric and in certain instances take out the module.
As for being dead, I would re check you have plugged connectors on module in the right location. Even though they are keyed IIRC at least one will fit where it shouldn’t 😉

Power off if you are to attempt any of this :plug:

    Thanks for the advice.

After a lengthy wait for a replacement module it turns out that this is all that needed to be replaced. The machine has gone through a few cycles now without problem, so I think the cause was just the suppressor blowing 🙂

    Cheers,
    Pete.
