After 12 years of faithful service, my wifes favourite kitchen accessory finally passed away. (that’s the fridge/freezer not me!) Came down one morning to hear the alarms yelling for help. Didn’t have time to do anything before having to go out; and on return a couple of hours later, both the fridge and the freezer temperatures were slowly but steadily rising. Quickly emptied the freezer into the chest freezer in the garage, and switched off for 24 hours.

On turning it back on the compressor could be heard running, but the temperature wouldn’t drop on fridge or freezer. Checked in the back of the freezer that the evaporator was clear. Left it running for an hour or so; the condensor was still cold but the compressor was hot and no change to the internal temperatures. The fan in the back of the freezer was not running, but was not stuck. No error messages on the control display.

I’ve looked around at new units, but to be honest there doesn’t seem to be much to match the 3201, and having been in support engineering for most of my life, I hate throwing things out just because they need repair.

    Advice please.

    Re: Bosch KGU3201GB/01

I can’t offer any advice as I have a minor problem with our 3201 (see other thread). I’m hoping the defrost will cure the problem. Odd that 3201 is regularly mentioned in this forum.

I too noticed there isn’t anything close to the 3201 if I was to replace ours. Bosch do a taller 200cm tall Logix model but the freezer compartment is actually smaller than the old 3201. There is the cheaper Classix and Excel models but I can’t quite see what the difference is between the two except for price.
