ParticipantIf this is normal and I’m just being a plank, please excuse me…
During a normal wash cycle, the drum ‘bangs’ quite severely (enough to cause dents) on the sides of the machine. This is only during the slow ‘agitation spin’. Last week one of the top springs finally gave way and sheared. I have now replaced the spring and we are back to status quo. I do realise that this movement is due to an uneven load in the machine, but it seems very excessive. The machine is about 18 months old and never used to have this problem. Only in the past 3 months has it occurred. It is not overloaded, when in use.
Whilst replacing the spring, I had a good look around to see if there was anything obvious that was broken/damaged, but all ‘looks’ ok. The dampers underneath are connected, the weights are all present and correct and there are no other problems that I can see.
Is this a problem or just the norm for this model?
Thanks for any advice!

There is something seriously wrong with your machine I suspect? If a top spring actually “gave way and sheared” then that is very odd?
I suspect the 2 bottom dampers aren’t working as they should and need replacing to start with?
Tell me, when you press down on top of the drum (with the lid off that is) does the drum bounce about freely or is their a reasonable amount of resistance? (The latter should be the case!)

When pressing down on the drum, I am able to feel the resistance of the springs but nothing else. I am assuming that there should be some kind of resistance from the dampers. There is also quite a bit of movement to left and right as well as forwards and backwards and it does feel quite ‘sloppy’.
Just a shot in the dark here, but I guess that the dampers are just there looking pretty at the moment and not actually doing much. Would this be a reasonable assumption?
Thanks for the prompt reply!
