I went to a Hotpoint FFA97G fridge freezer today and the evaporator was completely blocked with a solid lump of ice. Ah Ha I thought another job to replace the thermistors. However they were in a different location and were white. I couldn’t find any part numbers for them, so are these the ones which are classed as ‘foamed in and unreplaceable’. If so, what else could cause this f/f to ice up.

    Thanks for any help.

Have you check the defrost heater? Is the drain hole blocked? Is there a defrost timer? Or is it controled from the board? I have had problems with Zanussi F/F, freezing up due to faulty timers and blocked drain holes. Hope this helps.

atech, The drain hole was clear. No timer, just the p c b at top of facia. Not sure about the heater. When I couldn’t find any thermistors listed on connections for this model, there was a part called ‘defrost thermal fuse’ (a red object with 4 wires). Thats what I shall check when customer returns after his hols. Thanks for the reply

If its like the FFA60 or FFA70 the thermistors are embedded in the foam and are not available as a seperate item. What I’ve been doing is – find the plug in of the thermistors to PCB and then at room temp check their resistance – all should be about the same. If not then you have a duff thermistor, if they are the same probably a PCB fault.
