ParticipantI’ve got a 601 smart drive, and I had problems with it not filling with water. I’ve since bought a new valve for the cold only (I don’t usually use the hot). And now it fills fine, but it doesn’t stop filling. I’ve tried taking it apart, but can’t figure out where it’s going wrong. it will fill till the cows come home. Any thoughts?

And it doesn’t actually overflow? If this is the case, the drain hose is probably stuffed to the bottom of the pipe and the machine is syphoning the water straight out again. Check the that the end of the drain hose is at least 2″ above the maximum possible water level in the machine.
If you are paddling, run the diagnostics as outlined in the sticky at the top of the forum and report back.
Just by the way, if you are running the machine on cold fill only, your detergent will not activate properly and you will achieve very poor wash results. Heat is good………

I also have a F & P 601, about 12 years old, it stopped today, the drain pump will work but it starts to spin and then stops, tries this about 3 or 4 times then turns off and just keeps beeping.
I tried to get into the diagnostics as per an above listed topic of error codes, and this is what I got- Held down the water temp down button the pressed the power on, all lights lit up then most went off, i tried pressing the spin speed up button but it just beeped at me, so i pressed the advance button, which then allowed me to press the spin speed up until both hold and slow lights were both on.
At that point I had the middle and far right wash lights on as well as the final rinse and spin lights were both lit.Not sure if I’m in the right area or not and would appreciate your help. The fact that it is 12 years old, I just want to know whether or not it is worth fixing or is it past the used by date? It has been a good unit with very few problems over the years.
Thanks for your help.

Fault code 43, out of balance. Replace out of balance microswitch under the motor controller. Suggest you buy the sealed switch which is in kitset form part number #420313.

ParticipantAnother Fisher & Paykel Smart Drive 601 problem?
Hopefully this is what is wrong with my GW 601-U machine.
The diagnostic lights are lit from (L to R) 00101011 which I presume (if my maths are correct) reads as an error code 43 as well.
This usually reliable machine has been in storage for a couple of years and prior to this I had been stripping it down for cleaning every 6 months.
Bringing it out of storage I now find that it stops after any setting at about 10 seconds of operation with the finish beeps and shuts down.I was hoping for a simple programming repair but I can see from reading other posts that it may require a part or two.
Any help would be gratefully appreciated.February 6, 2008 at 8:01 pm #225701Zipidi

No matter – seems to have fixed itself when I held down the Start/Pause button and pressed the Power button – maybe it forgot what it had to do after being in storage for so long 😉
