Hi, I recently moved into a rented property that has an old fridge in it. I defrosted it yesterday as it had totally iced up (there’s no door on the small freezr section) and as some ice came away from the drip tray, a hissing noise started and there was a funny smell as well. I was a bit concerned but I plugged it back it and it appeared to be working fine, everything was cooling and the motor was working. I got up this morning and found water on the kitchen floor and the fridge motor isn’t on and there’s a constant dripping sound coming from inside. No more water is leaking out but there is a funny smell again when I open the door. I can’t contact my landlord until Tuesday as he is away, so is there anything I can do and should I be concerned about the funny smell?

    Thanks

    Re: Fridge problem

It would appear that you have accidently pierced the ice box and released the refrigerant, whilst this is repairable if you can find a good engineer, I would suggest it is not cost effective on an old fridge.
