I mentioned this site to my dad, and he has a problem where the soap eventually fills up the outlet pipe of his machine. No brand, sorry.

He had a pump fitted about 12 months ago as the engineer reckoned the pump had lost its full “pumpyness”. When the took the outlet hose off it was full of soft soap, they blew one end of it to clear, and everything was ok. But they put the new pump on just in case.

It’s now looks like the soap is beginning to fill up the hose again. Removing it and blowing cleared it, it was like a big long soapy sausage!

They use powder and use the full range of programmes, so what else would cause the soapy sausage? Is there an optimum slope for the outlet pipe to sit at?

    Any advice gratefully received.

is the outlet pipe connected to the u-bend under the sink? if it is the long soapy thing is a mix of fat and food waste from the sink! 😉
is very unlikely that the stuff is coming from the washing machine. if the drain hose is connected to the u-bend make sure the plastic spigot (where the drain hose is attatched to the u-bend) is vertically upright.

i had this a load of times although curiously only on indesit machines i have no idea why probably just a coincidence but you need to loop the outlet pipe higher than the point it attaches to your sink so nothing will flow back from the sink.

Here is a good example of what not to pour down your sink if you have a washing machine attached to the sink drain. :rolls:

As Inspector Clouseau would say …. “Ah! the old pumpyness ploy eh?” 😕

But seriously, more information to prevent speculation would be needed here. 🙂

Make and model of machine and details of how and where the drain hose of the machine is located, how it terminates (i.e hooked into a stand-pipe or coupled to a shared sink waste outlet etc.)

More facts to solve your “soap sausage” problem please? 😉

Re: Soap filling up outlet pipe

It’s a Hotpoint, but dad couldn’t furnish me with model, etc. The hose is hooked into the drain, and only uses the normal hose, not an extended one or anything, and it’s not at a precarious angle. When he unhooks the hose and puts it into a basin, the water whooshes (technical term) out, so no blockage.

He said there is no way wash back from the sink could get into the hose, so no lamb fat in the vicinity!

They use powder, and the occasional bleach tablet to clean out the machine.

The sausage was all soap, no fluff, or bits of clothes.

Could the hose be scarred internally and be hording bits of soap, then builds up inside (kind of like a stalactite).

    Look forward to your suggestions..!
