hi, we purchased an American side by side (F&F) in November 2006. The ice maker has packed up again, water dispenser okay. The engineers have been out twice and have been unable to locate fault!

The first failure was in May 07, when they replaced PCB and valve. However it failed 1 month later, and water started to pour out of the ice box, through the freezer. Ice maker has not worked since.

I am now in dispute with Whirlpool as service partner cannot identify problem, and I am requesting a replacement appliance!

Any ideas on the fault, and my rights as a consumer for faulty goods?

    Any comments appreciated?

    Hi hall,

I’d strongly suggest that you harass the retailer as that’s who your contract is with and NOT with Whirlpool. 😉

Whirlpool will state, I assume, in their warranty terms, as most warranties state, have the right to repair or replace during the warranty period but you have to remember (and this is very important) that this is over and above your statutory rights as a consumer.

It is the retailer’s responsibility to resolve the issue, be that on their own or through Whirlpool. If the issue cannot be resolved then it is down to the retailer to sort the problem out for you.

Thanks for reply, the problem I have is that the appliance was installed and supplied as part of a new kitchen. So who do I pursue kitchen fitters, retailer ( currys online) or whirlpool?

I went for whirlpool as all documentation refers to them!
