ParticipantHi,
Just back from hols with 3 kids and mountain of washing getting higher by the second because machine is not working. Water comes in and when prog is due to start, the humming sound preceeding the revolution of drum is ok, but drum does not revolve. Have emptied waste pipe and reset prog several times to no avail – any help greatly appreciated. Am based in France and engineer due to call out tomorrow but not worth it if I have to change this 18mth old machine !Thanks

AVL16 not recognised by UK software, the first thing to check after you have removed the mains plug is the drive belt.
In fact you can check this by opening the door and spinning the drum by hand. If the drum is very easy to spin and keeps spinning for some time then your belt may have come adrift. You can also remove the back panel to check. Refitting the belt will only be a temporary fix, you will need to replace it.
Due to the different model numbers used in the UK we would only be able to guess the correct part number for your belt.
I have had several motor failures on newish Indesit machines recently. 😥

Jim,
Thanks a million for your reply – sure enough, it was the belt and I have removed it – now its just a matter of finding some place in France that will have replacement ones !
Thanks again
Catherine

Watch the edges of the cabinet as you replace the new belt, they are like razors. It will be very tight, it is a stretchy belt and it may appear to small but it will go on with a bit of force. One slip and its T exas Chainsaw Massacre time. 😆
Try to get a genuine replacement if you can, the belt is electrically conductive to dissipate static.

Hi again,
thanks Jim – I have ordered a genuine one on the web and put the old one back on to try to reduce my mountain – it has torn slightly, so I hope I have not done something really really stupid !

Well the worst that could happen is that the belt would come off again, get wrapped around the wiring to the heater and rip it off. 😥
I would keep an eye on the machine when it is in use and stop it immediately if your hear any funny noises.

Funny ! Thats exactly what happened ! Now got a machine load of stagnant washing …….. impatience is my middle name – 48 hours for delivery of belt and counting – life is so exciting here !
