I know that I should be looking at the Bosch/Miele/Siemens appliances, but not a great chef, don’t have kids so washing machine not used too much, and don’t have that much to put in the fridge…I sound like a right spinster!

So, I was going to refurb my inherited kitchen with AEG hood, hob and oven. Already have an ok dishwasher, but was going to buy unbranded fridge and freezer. The F&F are integrated, but A rated, so would that be a great problem? When I say unbranded, I mean diplomat, or other trade appliances. They go for about £150 each.

So, is AEG good enough for a household of 2, and wil my cheap F&F mean endless visits from my local engineer.

PS Trying to get a 5 burner gas hob, with controls at the side – can only find about 3??!! Is there a major health and safety issue here that I am unaware off? Knobs at the front get in my road.

That sounds ok to me, in my limited knowledge.

    Hi,

AEG is okay, not outstanding but okay.

Unbranded integrated fridges, seriously dodgy these days as a lot of them are Chinese in origin and have, shall we say, issues. Apply the old mantra of, if it seems to good to be true, it probably is.

Hobs, it’s just the current style I’m afraid that the knobs are at the front.

I am probably using the unbranded label incorrectly, I mean those that are the “in house” appliances. Other half is a builder and has trade accounts at the merchants, so we can get their makes and models. So when I am quoting £150 its a diplomat, or an unbranded Magnet model, which might be a samsung (that was a guess, dunno if they do fridges).

As for outstanding, I only heat up and grill in an oven. Don’t need a “pizza” setting, or any of the other 6 or so settings. And just heat up things on a hob.

I think AEG will do for me, and thanks for the link to the manufacturers listing, will check there before posting again.

    PS Loving the site!

Magnet ones may well be some of the cheap ones, poor hinges, overfreezing issues etc.

Samsung don’t do built-in, they do well enough with the Yank ones. 😉

    Re: AEG – OK?

HI , we have had at least double the number of breakdowns on the British sourced AEG ovens compared to the German built ones, i thnk the German built versions still say “made in Germany” in the corner of the facia panels. in particular the oven thermostats and elements are much more prone to failure. Hope this helps a wee bit.
