    My ZANUSSI washer dryer WDT 1085 which has only just had the on/off button replaced has suddenly starting to make an awful knocking sound on the spin cycle and vibrating far more …

    Also I’ve just had a peak inside the machine and the rubber seal (normally attached to the steel drum) appears to have come away from it ?

    Plus some of my washing appears to be marked with dirty black / dark stains ?

    Plus there is small amount of water leaking out of the bottom of the machine when it fills with water on wash cycle.

    Is it the ‘bearings’ or something ?! Please help !!

    The machine is about 12 years old but has been brilliant.

    sounds like a bad case of bearing failure..not a diy fix! as a guide price ex vat its about £75-£80 for a repair if only the bearings are replaced( if the old ones can be knocked out) or a lot more if the back half of the wash drum has to be replaced. advise…consider a new washer.

    thanks very much richard I suspected as much.

    just one question – I recently had the artex (concrete like plaster) removed from a bathroom ceiling and I think i may have put a cloth with some artex bits into the washing machine after clearing up – just didn’t think!! …could that have caused the bearings to go ?

    Are the present zanussi washer driers reliable and would you recommend one ? this old one has been really reliable up till now.

    unlikely the concrete stuff has caused the bearings to fail..they fail after long and faithfull service. there is lots of info on washer dryers to be had , some on this site..ie what to buy and of course the WHICH reports.

    A general guide of the ones we (and Which?) like not that we especially recommend any washer dryer, they’re all a compromise. 😉
