Saw this in a conservative Press release this morning:

The Conservatives are to propose banning plasma screens and other energy-guzzling electrical goods.

The Plans will target white goods such as fridges and freezers, as well as TV’s, Personal computers, DVD players that use to much energy or operate on standby.

The ideas come from a group set up by David Cameron to develop policies to protect the environment.
Although the measures to make household electrical appliances more energy efficient are not binding on Mr Cameron, they are thought likely to be warmly received by the Tory leader.
The group will also suggest scrapping Gross Domestic Product (GDP) as a measure of the nation’s success in favour of a model that measures people’s happiness drawn up up by Friends of the Earth.
Under the proposals, a cap could be set on the energy use of each electrical appliance, and those exceeding limits could be banned from sale in the UK.
A new labelling requirement could be introduced to inform consumers of products’ annual energy consumption compared with other similar appliances.
And there could be a ban on electrical goods with stand-by lights which can stay on indefinitely.
Some 2 per cent of Britain’s total electricity use is currently taken up by appliances left on stand-by rather than being switched off.
The proposals are set to be unveiled on Thursday in the final report of the Tories’ Quality of Life Policy Group, chaired by former Environment Secretary John Gummer and green activist Zac Goldsmith, a Conservative spokesman confirmed.
Prime Minister Gordon Brown has already announced his ambition to “eliminate” the stand-by function on appliances, which was blasted by the Government’s energy review last year as a waste of electricity

The report is expected to focus on plasma-screen TVs as particularly wasteful of electricity, and it is thought that many models would fall foul of the proposed energy cap unless dramatically more efficient technology was developed.
Householders are also expected to be offered tax cuts potentially worth thousands of pounds to make their homes more energy-efficient.
The authors are quoted as saying: “We propose a partial rebate of stamp duty if all cost-effective energy efficiency improvements are adopted at the time of sale or shortly after.
“This should be combined with a zero rate of stamp duty for zero carbon homes.
“We also favour a discount on council tax payable in respect of all homes which are built to the highest environmental standards.”

Makes me wonder what this crackpots do with their spare weekends, actions speak louder than words do they not ! Each political party has an internal engine which generates hot air which hopefully us the electorate will breath in, we have heard it all before and I have come to the opinion that as much as we hate to think about it this country is finished as we knew it, whilst we are all sat eating our breakfast trying to digest statements like that these folks have another engine dreaming up more and mre ways to extract money from us to support their bankrupt ideas and excesses, we have to many people living of the state, too many people in cosy national and local goverment jobs on high salaries and long holidays and far too many uninvited guests.

No where’s me soapbox ! olive ugh, ugh ugh , 😆

I have no doubt that you have all noticed that governments seem to think that it is more important to be seen to do something than to actually acheive something. WEEE is a classical example of this. My pet hate is VAT. Heaven knows how many jobs for the boys this creates. Huge office complexes have to be built, maintained, heated and lit. Large numbers of VAT inspectors running around in gas-guzzling Chelsea Tractors at our expense, causing needless polution, and all for what? I am told that the cost of collecting VAT is equal to its actual financial benefit. Let them look first at their own carbon footprint.

As usual its a well know modus operandi that Goverment Offices pedal,

Do as we say and not as we do.

I have no doubt that this country is a Police state now especially with last weeks reports that the Goverment now are really considering having us ALL undergo DNA profiles as well as the 100,000 vistors to these shores each year and evidently they say this will apply to even day vistors !

Can you imagine how this we not work in practice, when you stop and consider that we have legions of imigrants running around who are illegals and others living in the same houses all with the same or simliar names claming no end of benefits I cannot understand how these people would have a DNA profile taken when the goverment cannnot even police its interantional borders effectively !
