ParticipantHi This dishwasher is 2 years old, starts cycle fine fills OK then pumps out OK but once the first rinsing has taken place it beeps, stops and shows an E3 error which the book says is “cant pump out water’. Opening it water has been pumped out. Have cleaned filters pipes to and from dishwasher and the ‘hole’ in the sump with flexible tubing and tie wrap! also tried reset procedure with no luck. all to no avail still not working. When it first started this the normal wash cycle I use displayed the problem so I turned it off first then selected another program cycle and it worked ok till the next time so i selected another programme and this worked Ok now its not working on any of them? If it needed resetting or was a faulty pcb would it have continued to work on these other cycles?
Thanks in advance

E3 should be a water not heating error – draining faults should come up as E6.
There’s several things could cause this: heater and thermostat are the obvious choices but the circulation motor failing or a blockage in the spray arms could also give you an E3 fault.
The spay arms are easy enough to check yourself – giving them a blast under a strong tap can usually do the trick – but the other parts require stripping the machine to varying degrees to test and for that I’d advise getting a local engineer out. Apart from the electrical hazard some parts of the machine can be razor sharp when taken apart.
Power off if you go in for a look :plug:

Hi thanks for your prompt reply. In my dishwasher manual code E3 says it is not able to pump out the water. Is there a reset procedure for this model? we have had the electricity tripped a couple of times prior to this fault. I see from the forum the reset procedures do not seem to work for this model is it different for this one? we also have flushed out both spray arms late last night and all seemed OK with them.
Thanks for all you help.

If it’s tripping your electrics then there’s an earth fault somewhere which will be caused by a broken or wet component. It’s unlikey the machine is stuck on the test program and requires a reset but if you want to give it a try first of all anyway then:
Open the door of the appliance.
Switch off the machine at the on/off button.
Count three seconds.
Switch on the machine at the on/off button.
Rapidly press the program button four times
Switch off the machine at the on/off button.
Count three seconds. The self-test will now cancel.I still think E3 should be for a heating error but if it’s a drainage fault then check that your drain hose hasn’t become trapped or kinked and that it’s not obstructed where it connects to your sink (or standpipe).
Other than that you’re looking at opening the machine up to check further which isn’t really a DIY job for the uninitiated.

Hi again, thanks for that.
I have tried the reset procedure you stated when I read it on this forum yesterday but this model has 5 programme buttons and no lights come on at all (other than the power on light) when the door is opened and any other buttons are pressed. Which of the 5 programme buttons do I press? perhaps I’m pressing the wrong one?
It was not the dishwasher that tripped the electric but a faulty iron!! It’s been a bad week! That’s fixed now and the dishwasher makes two so what’s next after this I wonder?
We also looked inside the door at the wiring looms and pcb nothing appeared to have burnt out on the pcb and no signs of loose wires or chaffing at the door hinge area.
Thanks for your time.
Best regards

The only other thing I can think for you to check is that the spray arms aren’t being obstructed. Sometimes tall or shaped plates or baking trays will stop the spray arms rotating freely and prevent the programmes from completing.
Try spinning the spray arms before you close the door to check that they’re not being impeded. To reset you could also try:
Press start/pause
Push prewash and delicate buttons at same time
Machine should drain and progress lights flash

Thanks for your help. The spray arms were not being impeded when it hung up on several occasions and with different loads. However I’ve been pressing various combinations of buttons to try and reset it as per this forum and thought I’d just give it a try and hey presto! it has worked through a full cycle twice now! Don’t know why it has started working or how long it will last …. but thanks to everyone who has helped with this, much appreciated.
Just hope it stays this way!
