ParticipantMy partners 18month old Washer Dryer appears ‘dead’.
For information the Machine is a Zanussi Washer/Dryer ZWD1471S
PNC No: 914601117Several weeks ago she noticed the display not showing the usual ‘0’, didn’t think much of it until she put some washing in closed the door and then it wouldn’t let her have it back!
Much fiddling and she got the door open but nothing on the display, besides a relay clicking noise in the main PCB when powering on/off.Being an Aerospace Systems Engineer I opened it up and the Main PCB appeared to have 2diodes and some tracking burnt away.
I’ve obtained a new ‘configured’ EWM2000EVO PCB, have fitted it but still no display etc.
Thinking that the door lock may still be faulty (And the burnt out track on the PCB is one of the door lock wires) I took it apart and that also looks a little burnt inside. I’ve yet to order a new lock because I am loath to spend money on the unit now unless it will fix it.
Does anyone have any experience of these machines failing and what else I can look for / test etc?
The only thing I can think of is she has a habit of leaving the door open, the washer switched on and the display showing ‘0’. Could this have killed the unit? Looking at the door lock it would suggest the bi-metallic may have overheated over time and the current drawn burning away the PCB tracking?
Is there anything I can do to check the PCB / display etc? The new PCB appears to do nothing – not even light the display.
Any help much appreciated – don’t want to fork out for a new unit just yet!
Thanks

Sounds like you’ve nailed it yourself Jeff, it’s got to be worth trying a new door lock before you decide to bin it.

I had a better look around the machine this weekend,
Whilst the door lock appears suspect, looking at the old Main PCB it appears the Door Lock power supply track is the one burnt out.
This supports my leaving the power on / door open has done the damage but it also looks like whilst it failed, the door supply track has arc’d accross to the 0V tracking of the control electronics section on the main board. My question now is; could this have killed every electronic circuit in the machine?
I’m assuming the front button PCB is now toast (Given it does nothing – not even light up). Are there any other modules that might need replacing if the low voltage side was zapped with Mains? It is really starting to look non-viable to repair esp if all I’ll be doing is chasing zapped electronics throughout the machine.
Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.
