ParticipantJust changed the brushes on my Bosch WFL 2260 and it is very noisy when rotating clockwise and okay anti clockwise. Have I fitted one of the brushes the wrong way around ?
Done like this:
/O

Hi
Quickest way is turn the drum by hand. If it clicks ratchety in any direction then yes I would imagine that one or both of the brushes are the wrong way round.Power off if you need to investigate further than above.

Useful info here. http://tinyurl.com/2gnrog
They should be /O/ or O depending on which side of the axis they are offset from.
Definitely not /O 😀

Okay thanks – just changed them over so they now look like O
Much better and thought I’d solved the problem, however after about 5 minutes the high pitch whinny noise started again (but not as bad as before). Any ideas ?

If the noise comes in as it ramps up to speed that would be quite normal unless the commutator is damaged. It will take a couple of washes to bed the brushes in, best to run it through a full spin cycle without a load in the drum.
The noise should die down as the brushes bed in.

As Jim said they should bed in but sometimes if the brushes have worn down to the bone, that the metal connecter to the brush has protruded enough to connect with the commutator, then it either remains noisey or within a short period of spin will abort in the worst case scenario requiring a new motor 😥

IME most motors suffer a bit after brush failure, even Bosch motors. The sparking from the failed brushes produces heat which affects the tacho end bearing causing it to run a bit whiney for ever more. The good news is that they rarely fail altogether, just have a little increased noise 😉

I will let the new brushes bed in before investigating further. Thanks everyone.
