ParticipantMy current machine is on it’s last legs. My problem is that I keep animals and don’t have much money. (nobody does if they keep animals). So I tend to buy 2ndhand or low end machines. I wash for pleasure. I love doing laundry. I live alone but still do laundry every day ranging from my firlthy work clothes which get covered in muddy dog paws, mud, chicken poo, grease, paint, oil etc. I can do 2 clothes changes a day if I need to go out in public after doing the animal chores in the morning. Then there is the dog bedding. Blankets and duvets. gritty, hairy with off bits of woodshavings etc, plus one of the chihuahuas is a little pisser and makes a beeline for the big dogs beds to piss on them. So as you see I need a workhorse.
Many years ago I swore by Zanussi which coped well with my lifestyle, but they changed and are now not man enough for the job. My one foray into indesit was a disaster as was the beko. Both lasted only 6 months before having hysterics and commiting suicide. Now I have a servis which has lasted a whole 18 months but now the bearings are going, it doesn’t rinse efficiently and often I have to redo a whole load of washing, plus the drum is too darned small and one load has to get split into 2, which, since I wash overnight on the economy 7, means that I have to get up at 3pm to put on the 2nd load or end up with a big backup of dirty laundry giving my stress and being piddled on by previously mentioned chihuahua.
I would love one of those dysons, but, now I have the money, of course they don’t flipping make them any more. I have heard about a machine named a ‘titan’ which I am drawn to as I have a show winning cochin cockerel named Titan too.
The removeable drum looks interesting.
Other than that I have no idea what is out there other than the usual machines in electrical stores which, I feel, are made for ‘normal’ people, not for people like myself.
So, what has a big drum, accesable fluff filter to catch wood shavings, bits of grass, squeakers out of dog toys and hair, lots and lots of hair (15 dogs). What will last me longer than 2 years for which spares are easily got and not too expensively got. I would prefer not to spend more than £500. My car only cost me that much and has lasted much much longer than any washing machine I’ve ever had apart from those early Zanussi ones ( bought when Zanussi was the ‘appliance of science).
Somehwere ou there must be a washing machine who will last longer than my several husbands have done and be less expensive in the long run (I am death to husbands too). C’mon peeps, spill .September 25, 2007 at 1:46 pm #228578kwatt

Hi Fenwoman,
Buying Guide here have a read. 😉
Titan, avoid. We had one to test and couldn’t test it as it broke before we even had a chance to get it running.

Never heard of ISE before which is why Iposted here asking for info. Certainly the ISE 10 looks like it may be the machine for me and with a 10 year parts and labour warranty it seems I cannot lose. Although it has lots of ‘features’ which I will never use (tend to use the same programmes all the time, either full 40C wash or occasional quick wash)it has a nice fast spin speed which is essential for the rare occasions I have to use my dryer. Many thanks for your input. It has proved invaluable. Shame the Titan isn’t of the same quality as my ‘Titan’ as he is 8 years old and still going strong.

May I stick my beak in, and suggest a Miele? Personally they are brilliant machines, just as good as the ISE 10’s (I admit) , but they dont have large drums, but are as solid as a rock. Even the basic machine the Prestige Plus, will outlast many of the other machines on the market.

Any beak-sticking round here is done by me…….. 🙂
Adam, perhaps you could outline your in-depth experience of the yet to be launched ISE10 for the benefit of the OP?
Then justify the criminal price of spares for Meile appliances? Oh, then explain what is so good for all of us in having a machine which has to be re-set by dedicated computer-based software only available to Meile personel?
You will find that as part of the ISE ethos, the company passes on spare parts with no added cost margin and that restrictive software is completely unneccessary for the ISE10.
That said, Meile make quality appliances – they are just no use to the independent trade at all.

Okay okay, ISE or Miele, both better than most of the other rubbish out there. I have not used either machines, well tell a lie, I have used a Miele washer and dryer before at Brownhills, and they were very easy to use and very quiet too.
But as for both of them, word of mouth and personal judgement tells you which ones are reliable. And these two are.September 29, 2007 at 11:20 pm #228583aqualectric

I’d like to comment on the quality of CAD design packages and college courses on graphic design……..but I won’t because I know very little about it. 😉
But I have repaired appliances for 24 years….. and fully agree with P45. 😀October 1, 2007 at 8:38 pm #228584fenwoman

I am definately going to get the ISE10 but it’ll have to wait until the end of November. I figure with that kind of warranty I simply cannot go wrong.

Well, if it’s any help, I was told this morning that the ISE10’s will be in stock by Wednesday this week at the latest.
At last, a machine that can actually spank the Miele (just in my own opinion of course ;)) on price/spec, performance, build and ease of use especially by a mile.
Apart from which, I can finally replace my old German Brandt that’s playing up.
