ParticipantHi, lucky me had the joyous task of replacing our dishwasher element 2 weeks ago and the oven one today. I took the panel off from inside the oven and there was the element with 2 x 2 inch long ‘explosions’ and the element welded to the plate behind it. I removed the element and the plate behind has a hole about 10-15mm diameter in it along with another area that looks the same size and is half eaten away/meleted where the element has broken and melted onto it. Both areas are just bleow/on the outside perimeter of the element. Also I can stick a screwdriver into the hole and not meet any resistance for a couple of inches.
I am wondering if this is safe/will effect the performance of the oven. I see theres a tube runs into the compartment but I dont know if the fans blowback would force hot air into the newly formed hole or if it would pull it through it and have no real effect. Obviously though if it is pushing hot air somewhere it shouldnt be going it could heat up areas that could be bad.
Can this plate be replaced? Though it does look like a lot of work, but may turn out to be a doddle, I havent looked at it from inside behind.
It gets better though. The terminals were too loose for the new element so I tightened them but managed to shear the outer sleeve and the insulation off one of the blue wires on the sharp edge of the hole they come through. Will I have to replace this completely or is it safe to insulate or is there something I can use for insulation if I go in from the back? (which looks like a mission) Im not sure of what the requirements would be for anything I used to insulate it and dont what sort of environment it is behind there. I have some heatshrink somewhere that takes a lighter to shrink but dont know the max temp it takes.
Are we looking at getting a new cooker?
Its a Tricity Bendix product #948520000 Si400 or S1400. We got it new about 11 years ago and apart from the oven it all works fine and there are very few pits in the rings, probably since when we were both working it was hardly used and now we’re not it breaks … typical 🙂
Any help appreciated.

Only correct repair would be to replace the main oven cavity. Still available – p/no 3111676-36/1, about £50.
This would not be a viable professional repair as it’s the best part of a days work to demolish and re-build the oven. However, if you’re handy with a screwdriver………….. 😀
As the cooker stands at the moment, it is not safe to use the main oven.
Power off before poking into anything, BTW.

Thanks for the quick reply.
I take the fuse out as well as switching it off just in case my wife decides its time to off me and switches it on at the wall 🙂
Im handy with a driver and can strip it down and rebuild it, though I did sort of install the cooker then build the kitchen around it so the work is doubled since I will have to remove work surface amongst other things to remove the cacle, though its a cracking excuse to put off the tiling.
Can you tell me where I can order the part from and if thats 2 part numbers there youve given me please.
Also whats a good strategy for repairing the wire?
Thanks again.

3111676-36/1 is all one part number. Dave on spares@ukwhitegoods.co.uk will be able to source it for you and confirm prices etc. Almost certainly an order part, most unlikely to be held in stock.
Rather remiss of me – you’ll need the fan oven element as well. That’s part number 3110231-00/2.
As far as the broken terminals are concerned, do not use the crimp on red and blue things beloved of car bodgers. If thyey are all you can get, pull off the sleevings and solder the connection.
