ParticipantFirst things first: English is not my first language therefore I would be grateful if whoever answer keep the jargon simple.
Second hope somebody out there may be able to help me; few days ago during a normal wash (Candy ce104) my wife detect the following:1) loud clanging noise followed by a banging sound when spinning.
2)Very noisy and smoke from “somewhere. The “beast” now struggles to spin and clearly does not work.
Having opened the back of the machine I did not notice any sign of wear and tears on the belt.
I subsequently switch the machine on and is like some material of sort is “somewhere”; after few attempts the drum no longer spins. As I would prefer, due to my current situation, not to buy a new washing machine can anyone has any idea of what it COULD or indeed IS the best course of action?
Thanks in advance to everyone
P.S. Tried to threaten the “beast” with knife or hammer with not avail. Next in the list will be a rolling pin and the drill 🙂

power off…open door and spin the inner drum by hand. it should rotate freely, if no free spin, hold drum at the bottom and pull and push it backwards and forwards, there should only be a slight movement. if a) drum does not spin freely or b) there is excessive movement then the drum bearing are probabaly faulty.
post results.
thanks

Thanks Richard:

1) Spin with difficulty ( 2 spins at max) when hand spinned.
if no free spin, hold drum at the bottom and pull and push it backwards and forwards, there should only be a slight movement.
2) If the definition of slight you mean ” very little” the drum seems to “bounce” backward and forward; it seems pretty loose.
I thought it could be the rubber/ bearing but as I did not see any visible deterioration it didn’t seem a logical; conclusion; and at this point the question that raises is : should the rubber/bearing show some kind of sign of wearing ( such it’s ripped, some hole, the rubber is visibly apart, or sim.)
In any case thank you very much for your help and kindness.
Any other possible explanations why the beast behave like that?if a) drum does not spin freely or b) there is excessive movement then the drum bearing are probabaly faulty.

sorry, all seems to point to failed bearings!!!!, the door seal really has no other function than to keep the water in. unless it is badly distorted it should not affect the drum rotation.. the bearings are mounted at the back of the outer tub and the shaft from the inner drum is supported by them so if the bearings crack or disintegrate the inner drum will not rotate freely. if the bearings collapse completely the shaft jams, the belt from the motor, which is rotating, still tries to turn the drum and either snaps the drive belt or you get the smell of burning rubber.

Thanks Richard!
Superb reply I can’t thank you enough!I apologize for my previous post ( I confused the word) 😳
Now next step about the replacement of the bearings:
1) Is it something which a great deal of technical knowledge is required?
2) Is there anyone out there who knows how much can cost me to replace the aforementioned part? (in other words:is it worth it?)Thanks again in advance 🙂

not familiar with your model…however…take the lid off,POWER OFF of course, see if the outer drum is two halves screwed together, if it is then it maybe a hotpoint variant ie, a WMA tub, if so you have to get the whole drum out , unscrew the outer tub so it’s in two halfs and buy a rear half!! screw new back and original front back together and re assemble…not realy a diy job. if by any chance you don’t have a “splt” outer drum you still have a job again not suited to a diy fix. have a look an post findings.
