ParticipantI’m back again! Visited 2 shops in our nearest town here in Greece (over an hour’s drive away on hair-raising roads) to see what models of Bosch & Siemens washing machines they had in the mid price range. Not many- 4 in one shop, 3 in another. But I happily jotted the product codes down, thinking I could bypass sales talk & language difficulties by looking up the codes at home & getting the specs, idea of prices etc.
I was astonished that searches threw out NO RESULTS! Tried google, various sites in UK & Germany for these products, but to not avail. It would appear the codes do not exist outside Greece, where there’s comparatively very little info. on the web & the little there is is in Greek that’s a bit too technical for me at this stage. And NOTHING specific about these products.
Can anyone tell me more about product codes? Are there different ones for different countries/markets? Could the “WAE 20181 GR” Bosch (one of the codes I’ve noted) be exactly the same as another country’s “XYZ 12345” (made up, but you get the idea)? Sometimes I think I can see patterns in the codes, like more recent machines having later alphabetical letters, higher numbers etc.
In case any of you have access to info I can’t find, the particular product codes I’d like info on are:
Bosch WAE 20181 GR (a 7kg machine w. max 1000 rpm spin)
Bosch WAE 20161 GR (7 kg)
Bosch WAE 20461 GR (possibly a digital version of the 20181 above)
Siemens WM 10E 481 GR (7kg)
Siemens Siwamat C8 (a German machine, 5kg only & max 800rpm spin – poss. old?)Any information would be helpful. Thanks.

Curiously enough they are all 1,000 rpm machines and all listed on the Bosch spare parts website. (I guess in Greece faster spin speeds aren’t needed?…. 😕 )
But all are fine machines and worth doing a deal on I guess, at the right price of course! 😉

That was quick, Martin! Thanks. Any idea where I can access info on these models (specs)?
Don’t you believe that we don’t need well-spun clothes here! In summer, of course, you can almost WEAR them wet & they’ll dry on you, but winter is another story altogether. It’s wet/damp & cold (mainly due to wind chill) & clothes can take a good while to dry, often indoors. We’re out all day, so have to leave them indoors if there’s any likelihood of rain in the day. Or sometimes just to stop the wind ripping them off the line & blowing them to North Africa! But I have read that the new, high speeds are overrated, hammer clothes, and that nothing above about 1200 rpm is going to make much difference anyway, so I thought 1000 was fine for us.
I could post the prices I’ve been quoted (already discounted, apparently) if you or anyone else has an idea whether they’re good prices?
Any other info much appreciated. Would you know whether there’s much difference between the models? I’m inclined to avoid DIGITAL in the belief that non-digital would be easier to fix in the event of a problem. Would that be accurate?
By the way, I was also surprised that 5kg models were impossible to find! They’re all 6 or (most) 7kg models, which worries me after reading how the working bits have to be squeezed in to corners etc. with the bigger drum capacity. Is this correct?
SO grateful for your help. It’s wonderful to have somewhere to ask questions, and informed replies! Thanks.

Don’t bother quoting prices, just strike your own deal and be happy. 😉

No! They are all computer (digital) programme controlled and pretty reliable for the most part. 😉

Fear not, take the larger size and perhaps you can do the neighbours washing as well? 😆

Thanks again, Martin. Just one last question (at least for now): I got the impression that the last listed model (SIWAMAT) had been in the storeroom for some years, and it was also a German model with German wording on control panel. I’m a bit concerned that if it IS old, we’ll struggle to get parts for it in a few years – as I’m hoping it may last close to 10 years (or is that optimistic?). Would it be as safe to buy this one, the cheapest we were quoted, as any of the other apparently newer models?
