Hi Everyone.
I have a hotpoint mistral ff72p, which started playing up, the fridge never got cold, so i replaced all thermistors, and everything was ok for 6 weeks, then the same problem reacured, so thinking more £££ outlay??? I decided enough was enough, but since it was an almost new fridge freezer, I decided to shortcut the problem once and for all, and it worked, and everything is working fine, if you are fed up paying out or fixing the damm thing, by repacing the thermistors all the time, costing you money, try my tip, to get around the matter.I understand some of you will say its wrong what i have done, or it might do more halm, but what the hell, i am not shelling out any more £££, its now working great guns, and will do me fine, its been fine now for just over 3 weeks.
Please remember I did this of my own back, so remember your warrenty will be null and void.
Here’s what i did.
I by passed the thermistors, by wireing the freezer fan direct, as it is a 240v fan, (behind the freezer panel)
You will find two wires comming from the fan houseing, one (left) goes from fan, to a slide on pin connector, the other comes from the fan to a plug, like the thermistors do, i cut this and relocted it to a direct live feed (Positive) and added a small on/off switch, it works perfectly with no problems Hoorayyyyyy!The only reason i added the switch, is so i can switch the fan off, if the fridge section ever gets to cold, or starts to freeze the fridge compartment, i just switch it off for a while, then back on when needed, beleive me it works great.
You could always use a speed control switch, to run the fan at a slower rate, but for me it is doing its job, and i am saving money.

You do realise of course that this is a serious fire risk don’t you? Like really, really serious. In fact, it borders on insanity as you are asking for a catastrophic failure since that motor is not designed to run for extended periods, added to which you have limited ventilation.
I cannot stress enough the danger in this bodge job!
I also can’t believe that you’d risk burning your house down for the sake of a few quid, it’s madness!
On top of that danger the storage temperatures will be incorrect and this will lead to degradation of the food and possible illnesses due to that. And, yes, if you keep fresh food too cold you can risk your health just as much as keeping it too warm.
Again, I can’t believe you’d take this risk for the sake of a few quid.
I’m sorry but this is EXTREMELY dangerous on so many levels I’d have to say that it is total insanity to try a stunt like this.

Hi, I understand all your points, and have taken everything into account.
I have left all thermistors connected, just bye-passed the fan so it works independantly when needed, and i dont let it run all the time, just when the fridge warms up, as for the contents inside, i use a fridge/freezer thermostat to keep all tempratures in both compartments at the desired temprature.
Also mine, is working great and i’m not shelling out more money i dont have, I have looked all over the net for months regards solveing the problem, and did not solve it, and judgeing by what others have done and tried, the problem just returns, I did change all thermistors a few times, but no more.

Hi Tucker, I’m sorry but the simple fact of the matter is that this will not store your food correctly, I can totally guarantee that using this bodged up method. The wild variances in temperature only compounds the problem, all you have to do is think on the warnings not to re-freeze food. Same thing here, the object is temperature stability in refrigeration and that’s what you’ve just destroyed in doing this.
It’s not safe, period. It’s not a cure, it’s a danger. It’s not working great at all, you only have that illusion because you get cold air but there’s slightly more than that to refrigeration, just a bit.
The Hotpoint Mistrals are well known for this problem and replacing the thermistors is about the only thing you can do or, when it breaks again, buy a decent fridge.
I would strongly suggest that you consider replacing this one as carrying on like this you are liable to either become ill or run the risk of a fire.

I CONCIR WITH SIMON26 DEADLY AS AN ENINEER FOR OVER 30 YEARS THIS IS THE MOST STUPID THING I HAVE HEARD THESE COMPONENTS ARE MADE TO RUN FOR SET TIMES AND TO GO OVER THIS IS MADDNESS I HAVE SEEN MORE FIRES STARTED BECAUSE TRHESE PARTS FAIL ON THERE OWN WITHOUT ANY MODIFICATION TO LAST A LIFETIME ,PEOPLE HAVE DIED INCLUDING KIDS ITS NOT FUNNY THIS GUY IS CRIMINALLY IRRISPONSIBLE DO NOT LISTEN TO HIM PEOPLE
