KeymasterFrom a bit of news I picked up…
Italian home-appliance maker Indesit will invest about 30m euros in increasing the production capacity of its plant in Turkey. Indesit, the third biggest home-appliance producer in Europe, said that within the next three years it will shift its operations from Poland and Italy to Turkey, which is preferred for its lower production costs and favourable location.
😕

Hi Richard,
Turkey ain’t too bad at all and there’s a lot being made there these days. TBH they can knock out a decent machine IF you want to pay for it. But, if you want a cheap one then most Turkish manufacturers will make you one however, you will make sacrifices in order to get the price down.
Put it this way a lot of Whirlpool, Bosch, Beko (obviously), Matsui, Sovereign, ISE and a load of others are all made there to varying standards. I think that Candy/Hoover are in on the act as well now.
The simple fact is that it’s cheaper in terms of labour and, I think, there’s tax benefits to doing it that way as you are outside the EU but make no mistake, some of the plants in Turkey are state of the art and not ramshackle by any stretch.
Also bear in mind that Turkey is very well situated geographically to feed into Eastern Europe, Western Europe and Asia. This can lower shipping costs for many.
It’s much the same with China although, the problem with China in my experience and that of others, is maintaining the quality which is the single biggest issue, even if you pay for it. But, again, they will manufacture to a price if you want but you get what you pay for and they really don’t give a stuff about pollution or waste. Plus the aftersales from most Asiatic companies has been utterly deplorable although, to be fair, Samsung and LG seem to be trying to address that these days as they see the issues.
If you read the news on the front page you will regularly see tie-ups between known big brand names and Turkish manufacturers now as they are very good at what they do these days.
