You are not kidding, got to be around 18 to 20 years old , a Bosch built machine. Sadly quite a few parts becoming obsolete now.
Does it fill for the wash or the pre wash ( prog 1) ?

Hi Jim, Yes it seems like it is, gettin a little pool in the bottom. If you can imagine the dial that starts at 12 o clock – it gets stuck at just after quarter past if thats any help. – ive nudged it on and can hear it ticking but just no washing going on!!!

One of the first places to check on a machine of this age is the wiring harness in the door. Remove the mains plug first and if you remove the outer door panel, check the wiring harness close to the hinge at the bottom left hand side, breaks here are very common but can usually be easily repaired. Take care to align the control knobs correctly when refitting and watch the edges of the inner door, very sharp.

If you drain the machine out completely then set it to a prewash you should hear the machine drain, then start to fill, then you should hear the fill stop, the timer motor should start to tick and you may hear water trickling into the machine, when the trickling noise stops the whole process except the drain, should repeat twice more. Then the main circulation motor should kick in.
Are you getting the three distinct fill phases at the start of the programme, if you are and you can then hear the timer motor ticking but there is no wash action then you have a main motor fault. Could be the motor itself or any fault in the circuit, timer, wiring etc.

PS, Don’t ask for the price of a main pump/motor. 😯

It could just be a break in the wiring, the motor usually sounds rough before it fails. These are solid machines, I have repaired two in the past week, one needed a new drain pump and one had a piece of gravel from the bottom of the fish tank ( don’t ask ) in the pump.
You would have to spend serious money to get anything as good today.
If you have access to a multimeter or similar it would not be difficult to check the motor electrically and also find out if it had seized. If it was the latter then you would normally hear a loud humming noise when it should be washing. If it is totally silent except for the timer motor then my bet would still be a wiring break.
Did you check the door wirng before your first post or after I mentioned it? I have been at this lark for a while now 😉 and I know for certain that I would not have been able to remove the door panel and split every wire in the loom and check each one right down into the door hinge in less than ten minutes. 🙂
I would suggest that it is well worth getting it looked at by someone who has the required tech info.

I suspect this one could well be a relay start motor, faulty cap would generally still have a motor hum. Capacitor run motor came in use, Feb 92 from date code 74.
I will find out tomorrow, 😉

It was a motor problem, machine in cellar which it shares with a washer and a tumble dryer. Inside of D/W shows signs of condensation and the motor relay was jammed. Gave it swift knock to release the relay and motor ran for about 30 seconds. New relay on order, just hoping that the motor overload was tripping due to sticking relay and not faulty motor which appears quite free.
