ParticipantShould this machine “top up” with water during it’s initial wash :?.
I have a customer with a very intermittent overfilling problem and he reckons that it will take in it’s initial wash water then after a few minutes top up with more. At this point it will occassionally continue filling and fortunately he’s always managed to switched off the taps before flooding.I know the newer Hotpoints will top up during the wash cycle but not sure if the WMA’s should do this. Of course it didn’t fault when I was there although it did do the top up but only to a reasonable level. I did pull a couple of elastoplasts from the sump hose filter and thought this may have cured it but it seems not 😥 . Checked pressure hose and chamber , although not thoroughly so possiblity of pin prick hole I guess.
Driving me a bit mad this as what could cause it to overfill at this point but never on rinses apparently.
Any help much appreciated.

I had a problem with a wma overfilling after cleaning sump ,replacing the pressure hose, pressure switch & valves it turned out to be a module fault.
You can get the pre wash light flashing on overfill with a pressure system fault.October 9, 2007 at 7:20 pm #230306Madmac

yeh i would examine the pressure hose very carefully. Sounds identical to a wma i had a while back, it would top up at fairly regular intervals till the drum was nearly full. Tiny nick in hose caused by untidy bearing job (not guilty !)

Participanttake that useless flap off the neck of the outlet of the pump… murder for sticking, and causing a vacuum!
oh, and did you know there was a kit for the earlier wmas, including a modified sump and pressure switch? designed to cure that problem, but id still be checking the pressure hose

Here is a fool-proof way to test a pressure hose. Remove hose from machine . Block one end with yor finger and immerse most of it in a bowl of clean water. Now put the other end in your mouth and blow. Watch hose for bubbles. Now reverse hose end for end and repeat test. If there are no bubbles, the hose is OK.

Ok , thanks for the replies guys , I’ve ordered that sump hose modification kit 1604035 just to cover all eventualities regarding the pressure system.
Still a bit worried that roy1 mentioned this possibly being a module fault and no-one has said for sure whether or not the WMA’s should do a top up of water (after absorption) during it’s initial wash :?.

Hi Bryan, I have a WMA63 and on rare occasions when loaded with a full load of towels it will ‘top up’ after the water has soaked into the towels, not something it does often though. A tiny pressure hose hole would also be my first port of call.
