ParticipantCome on guy’s, everyday I see questions being asked over and over again 😥 I get the impression that some may not know that there is a “Search” facility on UKWG so I thought I would put up this post just to help 😉
The poor old moderators have enough to do than to keep pointing out that the “question/subject ” has already being discussed, give them a break and use the “search” facility first before posting.
I will get off my soap box now 😆

One idea might be to make the ‘search’ facility more obvious, a large button rather than the small text hyperlink.

Model numbers on the subject line, excellent and something I try to do and/or change wherever possible as it makes the indexing just so much easier.
Search button, you could use flashing neon signs if you like with a naked female draped over it and still people won’t think, “oh, that may have the answer”. They may think something else, but certainly not to use it. 😉

whilst we are on the subject of search,am i doing something wrong when searching.
for example:type in LG carbon brush as i did the other day (on trade spares)and it lists allsorts but no info on LG carbons.oh and one more problem i have is when you enter a model it lists a certain amount of pages but i can only access the first page.
i don’t want anyone thinking i’m having a good old moan here it’s just annoying.dave

I feel a ‘sticky’ coming on about how to use the search facility to it’s full advantage? 😉

Sadly the search facility isn’t the best, which is part of the problem. That’s not to say that it isn’t of use of course, but it isn’t brilliant.
When you type in “LG carbons” Dave what it will do is look for every reference to both “LG” and “carbons”, which isn’t ideal.
The next page error is a known one and it’s a bug in the code which we spent ages on and couldn’t track down. It can be fixed with an upgrade but we’ve locked down this code and version for security. Change it and we open up security holes or, we have to pay someone to lock it down again.
It’s frustrating as we have a planned upgrade to the forums which is at least 6 months behind now due to IT people saying that they can do stuff then not doing it. I am on the case though.

They don’t read them either Clive :rolls: a prime example of this is the “Sticky” Professional Advice in the Public Forums 😕
