I’ve been caught out by a few of these recently.
Symptom – no start. Tried the usual – new door catch was the favourite, adding extra tension to the spring mechanism, “easing” the latch cover with a fine file; replacing door lock. Mostly, no result.
Problem – is actually a two part, double-action hinge, made of tinplate.
Solution – Take that great big straight bladed screwdiver that we’ve all got. The one used for poking, prodding, scraping, levering, bending – anything except undoing screws. Protect the end with a tea towel, and insert into the gap between the casing and the door frame on the hinge side. With the door almost shut, lever over to the right. The hinge bends slightly back to its original shape and the machine starts instantly.
Or buy a new hinge.
