ParticipantThe other day my WD860 started making a loud and unpleasant sounding vibration when drying.
Not sure what it is actually doing, but when on drying cycle, every 30 seconds or so it makes a louder noise, like the pump is on. Well it’s this that has started making a vbrating noise.
It’s not all the time, but is very annoying, and I am concerned in case it is something that is going to fail.
It doesn’t do it on wash or spin cycle.
I was going to call Hotpoint as it’s still under warranty (it has had all sorts wrong with it since I bought it), but the last time someone came out to look at a squealing noise they told me off for wasting their time (though said it nicely).
Any ideas anyone?
Thanks

Get the engineer back to check as it’s probably a loose dryer fan.

ParticipantThis is a different noise to the one the engineer came for lalst time. That was a squealing noise when spinning.
This noise sounds like it is coming from the lower right corner (if viewed from the back) which is where the pump is, which made me wonder about the pump.
I took the back plastic panel off which covers the hole where the pump is and the pump is not fixed to anything – it is just resting on a foam lump on the floor. Is it meant to be loose or could this be the cause?

Ahh with that info then it sounds like your pump has come out of its slots.
There shouldn’t be any foam lumps there and is probably packaging from new.
The pump slots into the bottom on the right hand side when viewed from the rear. There are 2 holes that the feet of the pump slot into then you push it towards the right as it clicks into place.
If the pump is loose this would have caused alot of vibration.October 25, 2007 at 8:49 pm #232089WDK8990
ParticipantThanks. I’ll check it out tomorrow. The engineer before the last removed the pump to check it for something so if it’s not back properly he must have bodged it.
I am sure it’s sat on foam, I only had a quick look – maybe I was wrong.
I’ll post back tomorrow.

ParticipantThanks Everyone
Pump was not slotted in at all. I slotted it into place, put the cover back on and put it through a full wash and dry cycle with clothes in and not a hint of a vibration any more.
Guess the previous Hotpoint engineer who visited for something didn’t put it back together properly! Typical!
Thanks again everyone.
