ParticipantDont know about the rest of you that deal with connect but how do you find their backordering system ?
We have had experiences where items are on backorder and then dissapear from the Connect backorder list without trace, today for instance I have had a whirlpool dishwasher facia panel on order for over a month with the customer getting pretty angry at its non appearance.
Chasing Connect last friday for it or least a due date and they cannot provide any clue as to when we will get it. Monday I get them to chase it, they do not call you back or keep you informed, three days elapse and today I chase again on to be told by our rep that Connect have received a consigment from whirlpool and our order is show on their delivery paperwork, but guess what ? Whirlpool have not sent the part ????
Therefore we are told that the panel has now been reordered for us and still there is no clue when we will get it.
I have had to go back to my customer and explain the cockup hoping that they will not cancel the order but I would not blame them if they did.
How unsatisfactory is this ! Fair enough Connect say its whirlpool messing them about, but there is no excuse for the lack of communication on connects part and its left to the dealer to chase them all the time.
One thing with Wash Vac were good at was obtaining backorders and special orders, they had great communication too.
Anyone else have any input into this topic.

I have spoken to my rep today about this and it appears that they themselves cannot understand where these missing backorders go once they dissapear form the backorder lists ? Mm
I print my backorder lists off every week which supports my further enquires but you are correct that Connect need to completely revamp this aspect of their business

Best tip is to uncheck the backorder box when ordering from CDSL in the first place, and don’t give them the pleasure of fuffing you around. :rolls:
If they don’t have it in stock there’s plenty of other wholesalers who will have. CDSL don’t give diddly squat whether the parts in stock or not but to you one lost job is a major headache and financial loss most likely.
Play the system….they do! 8)

Talking of which, what other suppliers do you find have relaible backordering systems, prices that are competative with CDSL and a good stock holding ?

I don’t hold with backordering at all, my customers won’t wait either. The sponsors of this forum are pretty darn good theses days as far as stockholding is concerned. As for pricing, CDSL do a great juggling act don’t they? 😉

We try our best not to put things on backorder, I would rather buy a part of another wholesaler even if it is a few quid more, at least your customer don’t have to wait. Sadly there are occasions when no one has the part and you are put in the hands of the gods, we usually keep the customer informed. What P!sses me off is when you have waited four weeks for a part they turn around and tell you it’s obsolite, you would think in this day and age of computers this shouldn’t happen.

Personally its about time that more effort and money was put into the backorder system at Connect. Seems to me that all their efforts are concentrated elsewhere. I realise of course that at times the manufacturers are at fault but surely in this age of technology and easy communications how difficult would it be to devise something better.

I have to admit to have had a tour round CDSL’s facility in Birmingham and it’s a slick operation on the whole.
What that did let me see was the sheer volume of orders that they deal with, it’s just an immense logistical nightmare and I’m not surprised that things do go wrong. At a guess, with respect to backorders, I’m quite sure that they do the best they can and where something goes obsolete or has a stupid waiting time it’s more likely that manufacturer or supplier at fault than CDSL IMO from seeing how they work.
The other thing that’s against them is simply getting staff that know what they’re doing and care about what they’re doing rather than just picking up the paycheck at the end of the month. As we all know, getting people that are good is extremely difficult.
I suspect that most of the backordering system is automated and that, where a part goes obsolete, they likely don’t know until whoever it’s ordered from decides to tell them that.
That all said, it doesn’t address the problem of backorders mysteriously vanishing without reason from the system and the pricing has been discussed many times elsewhere.
Not perfect I know, but with any luck it goes some way to explain it in the absence of any comment from CDSL themselves.
