KeymasterHomeserve are obviously getting into appliances, even without buying DAG as we just had an enquiry about them wanting manuals for a new website, so I’d be guessing that they are looking to get into the appliance market. 😕

KeymasterI wonder who’s doing it for them then?

AH HA! Got it I think!
I put in a Kilmarnock postcode and up it pops as being good to go for a repair.
Thing is, there aren’t any Homeserve people up here as far as I know so, that set me thinking…
DAG…
Homeserve…
AH HA!
I reckon they’ve done a deal so Homeserve can use the DAG network for repairs as that’s the only way I can see them getting an “instant” network across all appliances as they purport to have.

Using DAG for the time being I guess is their plan but pumping you for info (tech manuals and stuff) proves they are going it alone since the takeover thing went wrong?

The number and price is the same, no matter whether heart of London, or in sheep country.
Tried just now, had recorded message open 9 to 5 mon/friday. That’s not like D&G who are open all hours. We have had the odd one through CDSL, but few & far between.

Yes, fixed pricing Alex. That is easy from an administrative POV but they’ve missed that magic number to get a decent response I feel, which would be >£100.
We could have done similar from repairs@ but there’s things in the way, not least several repairers. But you always run the risk of some taking the p*ss and also of customers taking the p*ss.
Homeserve though is an interesting beast.
They run all their own staff, including plumbers etc. and are now into the US and Canadian markets so they obviously have eyes toward global domination which, as we know from experience, rarely works. However, in their case I’d not bet either way as they do seem very competent in what they do.
They are a concern to the trade I think, but not in a traditional way. They are more of a threat to BG than us right now but, if they decide to saturate the market, then they may well become a concern and, very quickly. Homeserve has a habit of becoming very dominant, very quickly and that can only serve to take out more of our business, especially the chargeable work.
How the manufacturers will react should that happen as it did with BG, who knows.
This sort of cr*p is a why I wanted the monthly insurance running as it protects us from a lot of this malarky. But, ho hum, there’s no telling some people.

Are you sure about that Ken? I get the feeling that the majority of Homeserve are ‘subbies’ I think you’ll find?
October 29, 2007 at 4:48 pm #232214kwatt
KeymasterYes I am. 😉
They do use subbies to shore up their own, but they use their own where they can.
IIRC they have at least three regional call centres/distribution points for their own fitters etc.
