    Hi,

I’ve got a Caremark/Bernstein 02 800470 dishwasher which has recently developed a fault in that it when we turn it on and close the door it drains any water left in from the previous use (I believe this is normal) but then beeps twice and stops. Sometimes, if we try to restart it again it’ll work, sometimes not. Sometimes we may have to restart between 5 and 10 times before it works but I’m not sure it completes the full cycle before beeping and stopping.

I’ve checked the water inlet and waste water pipe, both are working fine, I’ve checked the filter on the water inlet, no problems there. I’ve had some of the pipes off underneath to check for blockages, can’t find any….

Now I’ve run out of things to check, any ideas?

    Many thanks,
    Gerry

    Re: Caremark/Bernstein 02 800470 Dishwasher fault

Yesterday I bit the bullet, moved the dishwasher into the garage (where flooding wasn’t so much of a problem) and stripped it down testing parts as I went.

The pump, motor and water inlet valve all work fine, there are no blockages anywhere in any of the pipes and all contacts appear to be clean and servicable. The thermostat and water heater both have perfect conductivity according to my multimeter.

The only thing I’ve discovered to make a difference is a magnetic reed switch on the side of the salt chamber which is activated by a float within the chamber; I assume this is something to do with the salt level as there’s a light illuminated on the control panel telling me the salt’s low. If I disconnect this switch the dishwasher works fine (despite the salt light on the panel still being illuminated). It’s completed full cycles 4 times so far. So my next question is, what does this reed switch and the float measure, is it important that it’s reconnected or will the dishwasher work just fine without it?

I can send pictures of this switch and associated parts demonstrating it’s location if it would help anyone to give some advice.

Question 2, next to the salt container is another plastic container which looks brown inside, is this dirt or should it be this colour?

    Looking forward to any response.

    Gerry

The problem you have getting any response to your query is that Bernstein/Caremark have gone bust. Do not mess with the brown bottle, this is the water softener. I’ll have a look tomorrow in the office and see if we have any info from the time we used to work for Caremark.

    Hi Gerry
Sorry I cannot help but I have the same problem. I wondered if you had managed to solve the problem If so I would appreciate any advice you can give. I also wondered if you had a user manual. I would pay you for a copy if possible.

    Regards
    Peter
