Hi, the door on my dishwasher is not latching. Everything looks ok on the control panel and when I push the door too the machine tries starting, but as I say the door will not latch closed. 🙁

Does the door try to ‘spring open’ a little? If so, open the down door fully and check it sits more or less horizontally. If it drops below that then you’ll prolly need to dock the pocket money from the toddler that stood on it…and use that to pay for the new hinges you’ll need 😉

If the door does sit horizontally then you’re looking at a catch problem which is slightly less expensive.

If you need an engineer then try the link below for a local chap?

    Hi Clive,
Thanks for your reply. The door seems to sit horizontally. The other thing I have just noticed is that even though the cycle button is off, the machine still tries to run when attempting to push the door too (is the logic ‘screwed up’).

Is the door latch already in the “closed” position?

    Hi Pengy,
I have now looked at that and it is working o.k. when pushed the latch closed and the machine started, it just doesn’t seem to want to latch on the ‘loop’ on the machine side. This ‘loop’ looks o.k. i.e. in one piece.

IIRC the ‘loop’ position is adjustable on these…it may have got pushed back slightly?
The clamp is held by one screw 😉

OK It’s confession time, whilst investigating top latch (loop) I realised the top tray was out of alignment! It turns out it became detached on the left hand side and when secured (clipped back on) again that side was slightlty further forward and therefore the door was not fully closing! I can’t tell you who’s fault it was but she is VERY sorry.

Clive & Pengy, thanks for taking the time to help this hopeless DIY person

    Regards
    Bob 😀
