ParticipantWhen using the tumble dryer on my WD860, no heat is produced and it doesn’t get hot. I have tested the dryer heater element and this is reading 40k Ohms and so i believe this to be ok.
On the aluminium heater box next to the heater element are two other devices which i assume are thermistors? I have tested both of these and they are both open circuit. Is this correct?
One is connected in series with the heater element with nice thick wire and the other is on a seperate circuit using very thin signal wire. I assume that the thin wire one is the temperature sensor, but what is the one in series with the heater element for?
I guess if this has gone up the spout then it would stop the heater element working as its in series with it?
Suggestions welcomed…

ParticipantRe: Hotpoint WD860 – no heat on dryer cycle – FIXED!!
I did a bit of googling and found that this is actually a common problem and it is caused by the heater fan coming off it’s spindle and causing the dryer to overheat, which trips the thermal cutout and causing an f-13 error.
So, i have now tightened up the fan spindle again and reset the thermal cutout by pushing a pin through the yellow wax dot on the top of it.
So thats it – all fixed. Does anyone know whether resetting the thermal cutout in this way means it won’t ever cut out again if it overheats?
I want it to be safe and so i will buy another thermal cutout switch if it is now ‘always on’. Does anybody know if this is the case?

It’s supposed to be a single use device. The operation is by a bi-metallic disc, which will work harden with repeated tripping and resetting; this will ultimately affect it’s ability to trip at the correct temperature.
The device is p/no 1604798, about £5 from memory, so worth investing in a replacement for safety’s sake. spares@ukwhitegoods.co.uk will get you one.
Using the Search within this forum will also reveal plenty of info on these machines and their little foibles.

yeah i had the misfortune of buying a Hotpoint dishwasher when i bought my washer dryer, basically because they looked really nice and modern.
Big mistake! I have had nothing but problems with both of them and i have had an engineer out no less than 6 times for my dishwasher alone!
I’ver learnt my lesson on this one – DON’T BUY HOTPOINT. They are rubbish!

P45, isn’t the TOC a 1605160, 1604798 doesn’t register on PF, I think it was superceded a while ago.

Entirely possible, Iadom. Don’t have PF, got info from MP database.
