ParticipantOven is a ZCE7701X, serial no:21900050
Fan Oven has stopped working. Hotplates and conventional oven work fine. Timer is set correctly and when control know is turned, Fan Oven indicator lights comes on, as does over interior light when control knob is turned. I can hear a power “humm” but get no heat. The fan also does not turn.
I replaced the heating element ~5months ago when it blew, and the oven was running successfully afterwards.
I have phoned Zanussi spares for a wiring diagram and am awaiting their disclaimer form to arrive before I can purchase it for £5. User manual is very basic in it’s trouble-shooting.
I have a suspicion that a thermal cut-out or an internal fuse may have blown but would appreciate any advice from the forum. I am comfortable doing basic electrical fault finding but have been a bit reluctant (time at a premium) to attempt to dismantle the control section.
Many thanks
Brendan

It certainly sounds that the fan motor has seized and a new fan/motor assembly will be needed? If the element doesn’t heat either then you may need to replace that fan element again? 🙁
Fan’s are prone to sticking and seizing and that may be why the previous element failed 5 months ago?

Martin,
Thanks for a very prompt response! Would a simple continuity test across the fan (when the oven is switched on) verify this?

It’s much easier and safer to give the fan a quick spin by hand from inside the oven cavity with the oven switch set on ‘Defrost’ (i.e fan only).
In fact without the oven on at all that fan should spin freely with a simple flick of a finger?

No joy. When knob is turned to defrost position, oven indicator light doesn’t come on, also manually spinning the fan doesn’t kick start it into action.
I made the assumption (simplistically) that the element and fan would be wired in parallel, given that when the element blew, the fan still operated? I presume no there’s more sophisticated control circuitry behind it?
Appreciate any other thoughts you may have.
(Or is it worth ordering a replacement fan and seeing if it fixes the issue?)
Many thanks

The point is that if that fans spins freely and easily with a flick of the finger and takes a while to stop, it’s probably just fine and not your problem here. 😉
The other likelyhood is that the ‘Overheat Thermal Cut-out’ has operated and needs checking? From memory it is located on the left hand side of the oven lining (side panel off) and POWER OFF!!! :zap:
