I’ve just fitted a new kitchen, and whilst I could have saved money by shopping around and getting the appliances separately, I thought it better to get the whole lot from one supplier to avoid any compatibility issues.

The kitchen has been built millimetre perfectly, to the kitchen suppliers exact design. However, the rear edges of the appliance door frontals (22mm thick) foul on the adjacent units.

I have contacted the appliance manufacturers (Candy) directly and they have confirmed they are only suitable for 18mm frontals.

Doe anyone know of any type of integrated fridge where the hinges allow for extra door thickness? Obviously this will mean the door will come across and restrict the opening to the fridge a bit more, but I need to be able to open it 90 deg.

(I realise this is the kitchen suppliers responsibility, but I’m not confidant they will sort it out)

“Millimetre perfect” is not an ideal quality when it comes to fitting integrated appliances I’m afraid. 18mm is the norm that’s true however fitting 22mm front panels could be overcome provided either the unit is brought forward by the necessary difference or perhaps an additional side panel be fitted to give that needed clearance?

What’s the model number of this Candy fridge? What do the kitchen fitters suggest needs doing in order to overcome their problem anyway?

Thanks for the reply, it’s a Candy CRU160k.

If I’d have know I would have left some additional spacing, but I went to the exact size specified by the kitchen suppliers.

If I could cut, or plane the door panels or adjacent side panels it would be fine, or even recess the hinges of brackets, but it would leave exposed chipboard/mdf

    This is the problem:-

An excellent illustration of your problem if I may say so Mark!

Can I suggest, based on your 3rd picture, that you ask your kitchen fitter to use a router to cut a groove along the length of the side panel to accept the door swing? Obviously it will leave an exposed section of mdf that will need painting the same colour as your kitchen furniture. Otherwise it will stand out a mile!

A good trade wholesaler (like Brewers for example) can colour match any panels and provide the appropriate paint to match it spot on!

Failing that option, then an additional panel will need to be slid alongside to make way for the shortfall….there’s no other options as far as I can see and ultimately it is their problem, not yours I guess?

    Good luck! 😉
