ParticipantS5453X0GB/19 built-in 8yrs old – run on average twice a week
2 weeks ago the dishwasher was still pumping away in the morning after running late evening. There was still a small pool in the visible area of the drain chamber.
When checked it was wet underneath the unit – and clear it had been leaking for a few weeks. I took it out to inspect, turned on its side and water ran out.
After this it ran fine again on the short 30min cycle – once. On next run 70 min hotter cycle it began leaking after about 10 mins from down around the bottom of the door, it seemed. We called in repair man, selected from this site! He came a few days later. He ran it on short cycle, fine. Started longer one and it was fine too. Took door off and checked visibly but it had dried out. He couldnt replicate the leaking. £50.
Ran it on a couple of 30 min cycles fine in last 2 weeks. Ran fine on hotter cycle yesterday empty with just a dishwasher fluid cleaning bottle inside. Today on that cycle (70min) full of dishes it began copious leaking. Possibly chamber under washer has been filling slowly and reached overflow level today?
Is playing ‘hunt the leak’ going to be more costly than just replacing it??
Any advice greatly accepted.

Two things spring to mind.
1/ The classic fill problem with these machines – hose from the fill matrix to the sump in the left hand front front corner. This gradually sludges up and causes a back-up in the matrix, which overflows into the undertray.
2/ Seal failed on circulation pump – slight, progressive leak when running is a typical symptom.
There are others – pin holes in tank, loose lock ring on the salt chamber spring to mind. Split in lower spray arm can cause some weird leakage problems, although these are easily visible from the front.
Either way, you will have to remove the unit and the side panels and observe what is actually happening. These machines are notoriously difficult to track down leaks on……
Once you spot it, power off before attempting any rectification……….

Many thanks
I will try running it on the short cycle and see if I can spot anything. -
