ParticipantHi,
My dryer stopped producing heat and so I checked the heater and stats and they were all blown and the stats were nicely melted. I’ve now got replacements but I’m a bit concerned about the state of the connectors. The insulation around the crimp connector has completely burnt away and the connectors themselves are a bit ‘toasted’. I would be happier replacing the connectors but I don’t know where I can get suitable fully insulated crimp connections. As the heater can get up to 210°c+ I guess they have to be a specialist part?.
Hope someone can help.

Participanti dont use anything overly specialist for those connections
a suitable insulated terminal will do the trick, just make sure the connection is good, and tight.. dont leave any bare cable showing and make sure you crimp them well and it should be ok
oh, and plug out if you are doin it ( i know you probably have, but its always best to advise)

the heater element should come with the stats attatched and the wires as a complete unit from memory

Participantonly the link wire for the stats.. doesnt come with the supply wires, which are usually the ones that burn

If the heat has damaged the wiring you will need to strip the insulation back until you get to clean bright copper otherwise your crimps won’t last long.
You may even have replace some of the wires if they are not long enough.
BTW the element that comes with stats and wiring is for the vented dryer. AWZ541 is condensing and is a different element. 😉Steve

Thanks for all your help. I bought the heater and stats as a kit off ebay (I hadn’t found this site at the time) and it didn’t come with any wiring. It may sound like a stupid question but where’s the best place to get the replacement wire and terminals from on the basis I’d only want a couple of metres of cable max and a pack of ten terminals? I work in Norwich (like Ritch who replied earlier). For info, picture of my toasted wiring below currently attached to new stats and heater.

p.s. The power is off!

TBH, it’s the covers which have suffered from the heat, not the connectors themselves. A gentle crimp with a pair of pliers should be enough to ensure a good contact. If you really want to change them, do not be tempted to use the nasty red or blue crimp-on terminals beloved of car bodgers – they’ll really stink when the plastic melts. I buy bulk supplies from http://www.vehicleproducts.co.uk – this may not be a viable option for your circumstances. There’s also good old Radio Spares. but I’m not sure if they do retail.
